Lady Bulldogs Go 1-1 On The Week

The Virgin Valley High School Volleyball team bounced back from a disappointing home loss to Coral Academy of Science-Las Vegas on Tuesday, Sept. 20 to sweep Eldorado of Las Vegas, 3-0 on Thursday night inside the VVHS gymnasium.

The split of the two matches leaves the Lady Bulldogs at 5-3 in 3A Southern Conference play and 8-8 overall.
The Lady Bulldogs started fast against Eldorado jumping out front early and then cruising to a 25-13 win in game one.
VVHS captured the second set 25-15 and then completed the sweep by winning the third set as well, 25-19.

Virgin Valley had a balanced attack against the Sundevils led by Sara Murri with 12 assists and four service aces. Sweden Smith added six aces along with three kills. Riley Price had four kills and three aces. Reggi Frei notched six digs and three aces.

Evia Toone recorded eight digs and three kills with Kinzley Lee adding four digs and Hailey Vellinga three kills. Marian Leavitt also chipped in with three assists.

Against Coral Academy of Science, the Lady Bulldogs couldn’t overcome several unforced errors in falling to the visiting Lady Falcons by scores of 25-11, 25-19 and 25-21.

In game one, VVHS fell behind 14-3 and never did recover. Game two was more competitive as the Lady Bulldogs trailed 10-9 but could not get over the hump down the stretch.

In the third game, Virgin Valley and CASLV were tied at 14-14, but the Lady Falcons reeled off six straight points to take control.

Murri had 15 assists, nine digs and two service aces for the Lady Bulldogs. Smith had seven kills and six digs. Price had nine kills with Frei notching 12 digs, Toone seven and Lee six.

Virgin Valley will play a conference match Wednesday against Somerset Academy-Losee in Las Vegas.
