The Progress
The Moapa Valley High School Cross Country program traveled to Foothill High School in Las Vegas to compete in the Foothill Falcon Invitational meet on Saturday, September 24.
A total of 33 schools competed in this 5k race with only a Varsity A and a Varsity B race for both boys’ and girls’ teams. The Pirate boys had runners competing in both A and B races. The Moapa girls team had a Varsity A team competing in the meet.
At 7:00 am the Varsity A boys toed the line. Mordechai Yadegar II was returning for his first race of the season after a two-and-a half-month-long injury.
The first to cross the line for the Pirate boys was Marcus Shambaugh with an impressive time of 16:35 placing third behind Jordan Kreisberger from Bishop Gormon. Following Shambaugh were his teammates, Mordechai Yadegar II (17:22), Isaac Thompson (17:57), and William Anderson (18:53). With multiple runners with injuries the team did not have enough to score and place in the meet.
The girls Varsity A was next. MVHS senior Kenzie Hughes crossed the line first for the Pirate girls. She placed 31st with a time of 22:52. Following her was Sasha Barnes (23:24), Beverly Potts (27:58), Jorja Freeman (29:40), and Jessa Freeman (33:54).
The girls team placed 10th with 275 points.
The last event for MVHS was the boys Varsity B race. Kipruto Koech of Bishop Gormon won the race with a time of 16:40 putting a 1:22 gap on second place.
Christopher Houston was the first to cross the line for the Pirates with a time of 22:29 followed by Dustin Jones (23:23), Mitchell Stoker (24:32), and Jenson Blake (24:32).
On Wednesday, VVHS will travel to Rancho High School to compete in the Rancho Weekday meet. Then on Thursday, MVHS will travel to Spring Valley High School to compete in the Spring Valley weekday meet.
