MVHS Girls Soccer

The Lady Pirates swept up the pitch with the Mojave Rattlers at a match held in Las Vegas on Thursday afternoon, Sept. 29. The Moapa girls scored 10 goals in the game while holding the Rattlers scoreless.
It was a scorefest for the Pirates. The team found the goal 6 times in the first period alone. Then scored at will for another 4 in the second half.

It was a team effort with seven Pirates scoring. MVHS sophomore Mallory Tobler led the way with a hat trick, scoring three goals. Senior Taytum Yardley had two. Scoring one goal apiece were Brooke Sherwood, Talli Fairchild, Lexy Fullman, Callie Bennion and Fallon Yardley.

Sherwood, Fairchild, Fullman Tobler, Bennion and Abbie Hammons each had an assist in the match.
MVHS Coach Lisa Cornwall said that her team is hitting its stride at the right time and working together well.
“They are just enjoying the time they have to play with one another,” Cornwall said. “And we are always preparing for the next game.”

The Pirates only had one match on the schedule which was played on Monday night against Mater Academy of Las Vegas.

Next week, the Lady Pirates will host the Virgin Valley Bulldogs on Wednesday, October 12 beginning at 6 pm at Jeff Keel stadium.

As of last week’s win, the Pirates have a 10-3-2 record overall, and are undefeated in league play at 5-0. The Moapa team is ranked first in the 3A South Desert league.

VVHS Girls Soccer

The Bulldogs completely dismantled the Desert Shields, 10-0 in a match played at Cheyenne High School on Thursday, Sept. 29.

VVHS junior led the Bulldogs with 4 goals and 3 assists in the match. Sophomore Anna Sedano scored 3 goals. Natali Isidro, Denise Silveyra and Jacquelyn Valadez-Galvez each scored a goal apiece.
With the win, the Lady Bulldogs have a 5-3 record overall; with a league record of 1-1.
The Bulldogs are ranked as #2 in the 3A South – Desert league.

VVHS Volleyball

The Lady Bulldogs travelled to Somerset Academy Losee on Wednesday, Sept. 28 and came away with a 3-1 victory against the Lions.

The Bulldogs got off to a slow start, falling behind in the first set and losing it to the Lions 18-25.
But then the team found its stride and mowed down the Lions in the following three sets: 25-18, 25-21, 25-16.

Leading the Bulldog attack was senior Riley Price with 13 kills in the match. VVHS senior Evia Toone punched 9 more and Sweden Smith, a sophomore, got 8.

Toone served up six aces in the match while Sara Murri, Reggi Frei, Price and Smith each got 2.
Murri put up 24 assists in the game.
VVHS hosted Sunrise Mountain on Monday evening, Oct. 3.

The Bulldogs are 9-8 overall and 2-1 in league play.
The team will travel to Moapa Valley on Tuesday, Oct. 11 to face the Pirates at 6 pm.

MV & VV Cross Country

The MVHS cross country program traveled to Floyd Lamb Park on Saturday, Oct. 1 to compete in the CSN Invitational.

A total of 23 schools competed in the 5000 meter race hosted by CSN(College of Southern Nevada). MVHS had runners competing in the Varsity A boys and girls, and Varsity B boys.
Before the Varsity A team toed the line, the collegiate girls race was just finishing up. At 9:00 am sharp the gun went off and the Pirate boys were got a great start.

First to finish the race was Bishop Gorman’s Jordan Kreisberger with a time of 16 minutes flat. Marcus Shambaugh was first to cross the line for the Pirates. He placed 4th with a time of 16:49. Following Shambaugh was Mordechai Yadegar II (17:10), Isaac Thompson (17:54), William Anderson (18:49), Gavin Hendricks (19:05), and Joseph Barnes (19:30).

MVHS boys placed 3rd as a team in this meet and are still ranked number 1 in the Southern Region of Nevada.

On the girls side, Kenzie Hughes led the Pirate girls with a time of 23:15. Following Hughes was Sasha Barnes (23:31), Beverly Potts (25:48), Jorja Freeman (30:29), Jessa Freeman (34:38).
The Pirate girls placed 7th as a team.

Varsity B boys were next. Christopher Houston was first Pirate runner to crossed the line (22:42). Following him were his teammates Dustin Jones (23:07), and Mitchell Stoker (24:45).

During the week, both MVHS and VVHS had a weekday meet. Both teams had 2 runners place first and second for the boys and one first place for the girls.
VVHS Jenna Walters won her 3 mile race in 20:00.

Owen Rappeleye and Isaac Craig went 1 and 2 with times of (16:57), and (17:18) for the Bulldogs.
MVHS runners Marcus Shambaugh and Mordechai Yadegar II went 1 and 2 also for their 5,000 meter race

Sophomore and freshman runners for both schools will travel to Desert Breeze Park on Thursday, October 6 to compete in the Bud O’Dea 9th – 10th Classic.
