The Virgin Valley High School Football team had their way with the Western Warriors on Friday night, Oct. 14 in Las Vegas. The Bulldogs easily won by a 42-0 margin.

The win was the fourth straight blowout for the Dawgs after their 8-6 heartbreak loss to Boulder City on Sept. 16.

The Bulldogs overall record now stands at 7-1, setting up a showdown with the undefeated 8-0 Moapa Valley Pirates on Friday night in the Dog House.

The Bulldogs got on the scoreboard early in their game with Western. Wide receiver Chase Otteson returned the first punt of the game 80 yards for a touchdown. Curt Felix kicked the point after, his first of six to make the score 7-0.

The Bulldogs defense shut down the Warriors offense setting a 10 yard T.D. pass from quarterback Gunner Cortez to Jared Jensen upping the score to 14-0 after another PAT from Felix. The period ended with the Dawgs up 14-0.

The Bulldogs small but quick defense kept the Warriors on their heels in the second period setting up three more scores.

Bulldog runner Isaiah Freiling went 35 yards for a T.D. giving the Dawgs a 21-0 lead after the PAT.
Bulldog QB Cortez added his second passing TD on a strike to Cutler Crandall increasing the Dawgs lead to 28-0.

Jensen scored his second TD of the night on a 30 scamper making the halftime score Bulldogs 35-0 over the Warriors.
The game was pretty much over after the Bulldogs added their sixth TD of the night in the third period. Frieling went around end on a 35 yard run making the score 42-0.

The Bulldogs pulled their starters the rest of the way.
“It was a great opportunity to see some of the other kids play,” said Bulldog coach Matt Woods. “We didn’t throw a pass in the second half.”

The Bulldogs will need to put the past three blowouts behind them as they await their tough archrivals from Moapa next week. Other than the Eagles, neither team has been pressed much by other opponents this season.

Game time for the big rivalry match will be Friday night at 7 pm on the Bulldog field.

The City of Mesquite is hosting a Foodtruck Tailgate Party starting at 3 pm on Friday before the game at Mesquite Welcome Center located at 460 N. Sandhill Blvd. Both Pirate fans and Bulldog fans are invited to attend. There will be food served from four different food trucks, live music and bounce houses for the kids.
