Bulldog Girls Golf Places 3rd At State

The Virgin Valley High School girls golf team placed third at the NIAA State 3A Golf Championships held on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 17-18 at Genoa Lakes Golf Course in Minden, Nevada.

Host team, Douglas High School, captured first place in the tournament with a team total of 665 strokes easily outdistancing runner-up Pahrump Valley which scored 754. Virgin Valley shot 809 to finish ahead of Boulder City (860) and South Tahoe (874).

Virgin Valley sophomore Abi Llewellyn shot rounds of 82 and 76 for a two-day total of 158 to finish in a tie for second place in individual play. Boulder City’s Camryn Schaper finished 80 and 78 for a 158 total to tie Llewellyn. Schaper won a playoff with Llewellyn to capture the silver medal.

Gianna Zinke of Douglas won the individual gold medal with rounds of 80 and 76 for a total of 156.
Virgin Valley senior Brooklin Montoya carded rounds of 92-95 for a 187 total. Freshman Davie Slack shot a 112-110 for a 222 total for the Lady Bulldogs while senior Jaelin Worthen had rounds of 127-115 for a 242 total.

In regional play on Oct. 10-11 at Boulder City Municipal Golf Course and Boulder Creek Golf Course, Llewellyn carded rounds of 80 and 77 for a 157 total to place second behind Schaper, who shot 82-71 for a 153 total.

Montoya placed seventh with rounds of 103-89 for a total of 192. Slack finished 120-112 for a 232 total with Worthen shooting 116-126 for a total of 242.
