Lady Pirate Volleyball Win Three Matches On The Week

The Moapa Valley High School Volleyball team has won the last 27 games resulting in 9 straight matches to boost their record to 20-9 overall and 9-0 in league play heading into their final week of the regular season.

The Pirates won their three matches last week starting against Coral Academy on Monday, Oct. 17. Coral is 11-12 this year. The Pirates handed them a defeat in three sets: 25-9, 25-19 and 25-23.
MVHS senior Sydney Reese pounded out 18 kills during the match. Elliette Olsen scored 3 for the Falcons.

As a team the Pirates finished with 12 service aces during the match with Brooke Houston and Allyssa Jolley each recording 3.
Houston also had 29 assists.

The second game of the week was played on Wednesday at Sunrise Mountain against a Miners squad which is 4-18 overall and 3-6 in the league.
Moapa Valley made short work of the Miners 25-8, 25-11 and 25-12.

Reese scored 10 kills while Sienna Neilson scored 5 service aces. Houston had 15 assists while Laila Frei added 10.

The final game of the week was played Thursday night when the Rancho Rams came to Moapa Valley.
The Rams challenged the Pirates in the first set. But the Pirates still pulled the win, 25-20.
Then the Pirates came to life beating the Rams 25-8 and 25-8 in the second and third sets of the match.
Reese had 18 kills total for the match. Claire Cox served up 4 aces while Houston dished out 19 assists.
Reese now leads the state 3A with 333 kills this season and is second in blocks with 81. Brooke Houston is third in the state 3A with 383 assists.

The Pirates will host 1-15 Eldorado on Tuesday night, Oct. 25 in the final home game and senior night. They will then travel to Virgin Valley on Thursday for the final regular season game of the year. That match starts at 6 pm.

The Pirates have clinched the Desert division and are the top seed. Coral (#2) and Virgin Valley (#3) have both secured playoff spots.

Boulder City, Cadence and SLAM have playoff spots in the Mountain division. Seedings for the five will be determined by this week’s results in the final week of league play.

In the northern league South Tahoe has clinched the #2 seed. Dayton, Spring Creek and Lowry have clinched playoff spots. The other two spots will come from Truckee, Churchill County, Fernley and Elko. They also finish the regular season this week.

The Region tournament in the south will be hosted by the higher seeded teams. The Northern tournament will be held at Hug High School.
