VVHS Girls Soccer

The Lady Bulldogs continued on a relentless roll through 3A competition. The Bulldogs had two wins last week over Mojave on Monday, Oct. 24, 10-0; and Chaparral on Wednesday, 8-0. Both games were on the road.
The Bulldogs have outscored their competition 55 goals to zero the past 7 games.
Bulldog Katrina Beltran got the rare hat trick (3 goals) in the win over the Rattlers. Freshman Linita Kioa added two goals followed by goals from Katie Garrett, Natalie Isidro, Denise Sylveyra, Jackie Valadez and G. Draney.
Beltran also had four assists and freshman goalkeeper Julitsa Sylveyra had the shutout her seventh of the year.
Beltran continued to rattle the nets in the team’s next match over the Cowboys with her second hat trick of the week plus two assists. Valadez added 2 more goals followed by goals off the feet of Isidro, Kioa and Mersadee Corley.
Beltran ended the regular season with 29 goals.
The two wins cinched the 3A Desert League championship, giving the Dawgs the top Desert League seed for the 3A playoffs with a 14-2 record.
Their only losses were 1-0 shutouts to Pahrump Valley in their opener and Moapa Valley.
The Bulldogs faced Durango on Monday this week. Durango finished at 4-6-3 in the Mountain League.

MVHS Volleyball
In addition to their win against rival Virgin Valley last week, which can be read about elsewhere in this edition, the Lady Pirates also hosted the Eldorado Sundevils in a match on Tuesday, Oct. 24. The Moapa team destroyed Eldorado in three easy sets: 25-8, 25-6 and 25-13.
MVHS senior Sydney Reese dominated the net stuffing down no less than 20 kills in the match. Halle Evans got 7 for the evening.
The Pirates chalked up 19 service aces in the match. Theyw ere led by Laila Frei, a senior, who notched 6 herself. Reese got 4.
Brooke Houston got 12 assists during the match with Frei following close behind getting 11.
Now undefeated and in the top seed of the Desert Division, the Lady Pirates will go up against Clark on Tuesday, Nov. 1, in the first round of the Southern Regional Playoffs.

VVHS Volleyball
The Lady Bulldogs travelled to Las Vegas to meet the Sunrise Mountain Miners on Tuesday, Oct. 24. The Bulldogs beat the Miners, 3-1.
The first set was close where the Bulldogs bested the Miners 27-25. That early pressure from Sunrise Mountain set the Bulldogs back on their heels a bit and they lost the second set 19-25.
But the Bulldogs regrouped and came back roaring. They mowed down the Miners in Sets 3 and 4 with scores of 25-5 and 25-15.
VVHS sophomore Sweden Smith led the Bulldog offense with 9 kills. Riley Price, a senior, followed close with 8. Reggi Frei and Evia Toone got 76 kills apiece.
Price go 8 service aces in the match. Smith put up 5.
VVHS junior Sara Murri put up 28 assists in the match. Marian Leavitt got 15.
With a 6-4 league record, the Bulldogs are in the #6 seed in the Desert League. That will put them up against SLAM on Tuesday, Nov. 1, for the first round of the Regional Playoffs. SLAM has a 7-3 league record and is the #2 seed in the Mountain Division, behind Boulder City.
