The Virgin Valley High School Girls Soccer team lost to Pahrump Valley, 2-1, on Saturday afternoon in the final round of the 3A Southern Region Championship held at Bettye Wilson Park in Las Vegas. In an ironic twist, the Bulldogs also lost their very first game of the season to the Trojans, 1-0.

But that was still enough to get the Bulldogs a ticket to the State Championship tournament this week. The Bulldogs will get one more chance at Pahrump this year if they can beat Hug High School from Reno on this Friday, Nov. 11 in Dayton Nevada in the first round at State.

The Bulldogs began Regional tournament play on Monday, Oct. 31 against Durango High School. The Dawgs came away with a 2-1 victory behind star striker Katrina Beltran. Beltran scored both goals for the Dawgs in the game.

The win moved the Dawgs into the semifinals against the Eagles from Boulder City. The Dawgs continued their strong late season run through 3A competition with a 2-1 win over the Eagles.
Beltran continued her attack on goal with one. Fellow striker Natalie Isidro added another goal to the scoreboard in the victory. Beltran had an assist on Isidro’s goal.

The win set up the regional championship match between the two best teams in the 3A southern Region. Bulldog Linita Kioa had the sole goal for the Dawgs in the match on an assist from Beltran.
The loss to Pahrump gives the Dawgs a 13-4 record for the 2022 season. Their counterpart Pahrump Valley finished with a 21-1-2 record.

The Trojans will face Truckee, the #2 seed from the north, on Friday at noon.

Let’s hope the Southern teams get to meet one more time in the finals which will be played on Saturday.
