MVHS Flag Football Coming Back With A Purpose

The Moapa Valley High School Flag Football team made it to the state semi-finals last year and the team is looking to come back with a chance to win the state title.

The team returns several starters from last year’s team. Each of these will be integral to the program this year.

The MVHS quarterback Kendal Longman, a junior, will be returning. “She has put in more experience and brings a strong arm with her,” said Head Coach Dave Belcher. We will look to her with leadership on the offense.”

Senior Paige Fairchid will return this year, this time as receiver. Fairchild was an all region safety last year.
“Paige is an exciting player to watch,” said Belcher. “She knows the game and always gives her best. She will play a huge role in our success this year.”

Senior Lexy Fullman will be returning to the team as middle linebacker. “She is tough!” Belcher said. “Her speed and quickness make her a challenge to contain.”

Senior Deni Jarrel will play center for the team. “She does an outstanding job blocking and she can also catch the football,” Belcher said. “She is another girl who will help lead this team.”

Senior Brook Sherwood returns as a utility player. “Brooke can play any position on the defense side of the ball,” Belcher said. “She is also a great running back.”

Alexa Nuckles, a junior, is a solid linebacker for the team. “She will help this team with her toughness.”

The Pirate team will be up against some stiff competition again this year. Virgin Valley is the defending state champion and will be a favorite to win it again.
Boulder City is returning all but one starter and will also be a favorite.

But Belcher likes his team’s chances. The turnout to practices this year has been strong and the team is resolved to work hard and play well.
“We have 36 girls in the program this year,” Belcher said. “We have a solid core who are here to play their best and win a title. We will be in the mix and fight hard.”

The Lady Pirates will begin play on Tuesday, Nov. 29 by hosting Mater East on the home field at 4:30 pm. Then on Thursday, Dec. 1 the team will travel to Las Vegas to face Rancho High School.
