A hometown athlete from Virgin Valley High School recently signed to play college soccer. In a brief ceremony at the high school last month, VVHS senior Kacie Garrett signed her name on the dotted line to play at Oklahoma Panhandle State University (OPSU) in Goodwell, Oklahoma. She will be getting her start with the Aggie’s team in mid-July.

OPSU is a NAIA school that plays in the Sooner Conference.

In an interview with The Progress, Kacie said that she was given a close look by OPSU scouts while playing in a club soccer tournament in Oceanside, California last November.
“They came and watched me play and then contacted me by email afterwards and set up a conference call,” Kacie said.

She was interested. Kacie took a trip to Oklahoma in January and got a tour of the college. She also had a chance to practice with the team. That clinched the decision.
“They have a really good coach,” Kacie said. “He introduced me to all the girls and everyone seemed really nice when I practiced with the team.”

Kacie is a four-year varsity letterman at VVHS. She is a three-time, All-Desert League first team choice. She has also been placed on the 3A All state team. She made the Clark County All-Star team this year.

Kacie also served as VVHS varsity team captain during her senior year and was named MaxPreps player of the year by Virgin Valley High School.

Kacie has been part of a 3A Southern Nevada championship team and is a two-time state qualifyer with the Bulldog soccer team.

In addition, Kacie has played club soccer for Las Vegas Albion, an elite league throughout the west coast. She travels to play games all across the west two or three weekends a month including to New Mexico, Colorado, Southern California, Arizona and more.

When asked what her college major will be, Kacie responded, “I’m still undecided. But I’m looking at Criminal Justice or Nursing.”

Kacie is the daughter of Keith and Danielle Garrett.
