Pirates Pull Off Home Win Against Pahrump, 5-4

The Moapa Valley High School baseball team hosted a Pahrump Valley team on Tuesday, March 7. The Pirates held off the Trojans for a close 5-4 victory, after trailing 1-0 at the top of the third inning.

The Pirates pulled ahead in the bottom half of the third scoring 3 runs. Tyson Staheli hit a double on a flyball to left field bringing in Aidan Johnson to put Moapa on the board. Later Staheli scored on a Trojan error to put the Pirates in the lead. Then Tyson Pettingill hit a hard g round ball single to center field bringing in Logan Schouten for the 3-1 score.

Pahrump Valley scored a run in the fourth inning, closing the Pirate lead to 3-2.
Moapa Valley put two more on the board in the bottom of the fifth. Pettingill hit a double to bring Chandler Evans home. Then Tahj Totten hit a single to bring Pettingill home to make the score 5-2.

The Trojans comeback fell short with a couple of runs in the sixth to end the scoring at 5-4, Moapa.
Staheli pitched the win for the Pirates, throwing 91 pitches and striking out four. Staheli had a hit and RBI.

Pettingill had two hits and two RBI while Totten scored the other RBI.

The Pirates will play in the Durango High School tournament this week in Las Vegas.
