Pirates Go 1-2 Against Big-School Competition

Spring break meant baseball to the Moapa Valley High School baseball team as they traveled to Las Vegas early last week for three days to play in the Blazer Bash tournament at Durango High School. The Pirates finished with a 1-2 record at the tournament.

Their first game ended in a harsh 15-0 loss against the Las Vegas Wildcats. Vegas wasted no time scoring 9 runs in the first inning. Then they scored one in the second, three in the third and two more in the four for a 15-0 shutout in just four innings.

The Pirates were held to a single hit by Tyson Pettingill for the game.
Vegas was led by McGown and Ponticello who each scored 3 RBI’s.

The Pirates second game was another shutout against powerhouse Green Valley who beat the Pirates 15-0.

The game was scoreless in the first inning before the Gators scored two in the second followed by 7 more over the next three innings. Green Valley closed the game out with 6 runs in the seventh inning for the final.
The Pirates finished with three hits.

In their third and final tournament game, the Pirates played The Meadows and came away with an 8-1 win.

The Pirates are 4-4 overall and will host Canyon Springs on Thursday, March 23 in the first league game of the season. The game starts at 3:30 pm.
