Bulldogs Go 2-2 in So. Utah Tournament Play

The Virgin Valley High School baseball team traveled to Washington, Utah for a tournament last weekend and split the four games.

The Dawgs began play on Thursday, Mar. 23 against Kanab High School defeating the Cowboys, 9-1. The Bulldogs had a hitting fest with 18 hits mauling the Cowboys pitchers.

The Bulldogs got on the board first with one run in the second inning, adding 4 more in the fourth to put the game out of reach.

The Dawgs hitters had a field day with 4 more runs in the sixth giving them nine for the day.
The Cowboys got their only run of the day in the bottom of the sixth.

Drake Wakefield had a perfect 4X4 day and an RBI. Kurt Felix, Mason Montoya and Braden Harris finished not far behind with 3 hits each. Harris had the big hit with 3 RBI.
Felix was the winning pitcher with Montoya in relief.

The Bulldog hitters fell silent on Friday morning managing only 4 hits in a 4-3 loss to Crimson Cliff.
The Dawgs fell behind 2-0 in the bottom of the second inning getting one back in the top of the fourth and two more in the sixth inning.

Martin Jordan led the Dawgs with one hit accounting for two runs batted in.
The Bulldogs returned to action Friday afternoon against Cedar City’s (Utah) Canyon View High School Falcons. Stats were not available for this writing but the Dawgs lost to the Falcons 7-2.

The Bulldogs finished the tournament on Saturday with a 13-7 win over Canyon View’s JV squad. The Dawgs had their hitting gloves on with 14 hits for the game.

The Dawgs jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Stratton Waite got the Dawgs rolling with a single, Bryce Intagliata followed with a single with both runners moving ahead on a fielder’s choice. Mason Montoya drove in Waite with a double. Aiden Litzenberger drove in both runners with a long triple to left field giving the Dawgs a lead 4-0.

The Bulldogs added two more runs in the second followed by one more run each in the third, fourth and fifth innings capping their scoring with four in the sixth to win 13-7.

Mason Montoya led the hitters with 3 hits and 2 RBI. Waite and Litzenberger added two hits each. Martin Jordan had 3 runs batted in for the Dawgs.

Chanden Jensen got the win for the Dawgs with relief from Cameron Wright and Dodger Smith.
The Bulldogs season record went to 7-5.

Virgin Valley will host Clark High School on Tuesday, March 28. Game time is 3:30 pm.
