The Moapa Valley High School Softball team won two games last week. In their first league game of the season the Pirates hosted SLAM on Monday afternoon, Mar. 20 and whipped the Bulls, 11-1.
Then they took to the road on Thursday to play Desert Pines in Las Vegas for a blowout 19-0 victory.
Against SLAM, the Pirates were fired up from the very first inning. Hits by Andie Wood and Lexi Fullman brought in runners for an early 2-0 lead.
Moapa scored three more runs in the third inning on hits by Kyndall Longman and Tyelar Anderson. Longman actually got 2 RBI on a double she hit in the inning.
The next inning brought four more runs. Hits by Reagan Stankoski, Wood and Fullman all brought runners home.
Two more runs in the fifth inning brought the game to a close. Kenzie Hughes and Stankoski each hit an RBI in the inning.
Wood led the Pirates with 3 hits. She also was the winning pitcher with 9 strikeouts in the game while giving up only one hit.
The Pirates were merciless against the Desert Pines team scoring their 19 runs on 10 hits in only 3 innings.
Batting was a team effort in this game with Stankoski, Wood, Longman and Emmy Cornwall all getting 2 hits in the game. Longman got 4 RBI, while Stankoski and Wood each got 3.
Kylie Neil was the winning pitcher for the Pirates. She allowed no hits and struck out 2.
With the three wins, the Pirates ended the week with a 6-3 overall record; 2-0 in league.
The Lady Pirates travel to Boulder City on Tuesday, Mar. 28 to face the Eagles. Game time is 3:30 pm.
