MVHS Hosts Track Invitational

The Moapa Valley High School Track and Field teams hosted the annual Richard Lewis Invitational Meet on Friday, March 31. A total of 16 schools were represented from across the region including, of course, the MVHS teams and the Virgin Valley teams.

Both Pirate teams took first place in the meet.
The MVHS girls team scored a total of 110.5 team points, well ahead of second place Pahrump which had 97 points. The Virgin Valley girls team took 5th with 67 points.

On the boys’ side, the Pirates won with 176.5 points. Second place was Mojave at 125 points. Virgin Valley boys took fifth place with 54.83 points, just slightly behind Boulder City which had 55.83 in fourth place.

Bulldog distance runner Owen Rappleye smashed two VVHS school records at the meet. Rappley finished third in the 1600 meter run with a time of 4:45.75, a new school record. The old VVHS record in the event was set in 2011 by Raul Lopez at 4:50.92.

Rappleye went on to surpass a second school record in the 3200 meter race. He placed second but set the record with a time of 10:45.45. The previous record was held by Sam Sylvester in 2008 who ran the event in 10:45.64.

Pirate sprinter Degan Jones finished fourth in the 100 meters with a time of 11.6.
Gary Leavitt placed eighth for the Pirates in the 200 meters at 24.1.
Pirate runner Ethan Witter finished sixth in the 400 meters with a time of 53.28.

Pirate distance runner Mordechai Yadegar placed second in the 800 meters with a time of 2:05.9 Witter placed fifth in the event with a time of 2:08.57.
Pirate runner Marcus Shambaugh won the 1600 meter run with a time of 4:33.47. Yadegar also placed a close second in the event with a time of 4:35.26. Rappleye took third for the Bulldogs. Issac Thompson placed seventh with a time of 5:05.51.

Yadegar won the 3200 meters with a time of 10:28.99. Rappleye took second for the Bulldogs. Hal Thompson finished fourth at 10:57,74; William Anderson was fifth, 11:10.86; and Marcus Shambaugh took sixth with a time of 11:16.46.

There were three Pirates in the top ten of the 100 meter hurdle event. Brody Redd finished fourth at 18.15. Nicholas Leavitt placed fifth at 19.06. Marc Villa took 7th at 19.68

Talon Shraft placed third for the Pirates in the 300 meter hurdles at 45.03. Villa was fifth, 46.58 and Mason Wheeler secured an eighth place finish for the Piraters at 48.5.

Logan Stewart won the boys shot put with a throw of 45-9.25. Bulldog athlete Jeremy Gossett took 3rd in the event at 42-5. Gavyn Fredricks finished sixth, 38-11.
Stewart also won the discus with a throw of 133-2. Fredricks placed tenth, 98-2.

Tanner Hammons placed third in the high jump, 5-8. Wyatt Leavitt tied at 6th for the Bulldogs leaping 5-6.

Hammons also finished third in the long jump at 19-10. Chase Otteston took 5th at 19-1.75; and Wyatt Leavitt took 6th at 19-0.25. Tyson Redd came in 9th for the Pirates at 18-8.

Otteson won the Triple Jump for the Bulldogs with a leap of 43-2.58. Tyson Redd took 5th at 38-7.5. Hammons took sixth at 38-4.5. Brody Redd took 7th for the Pirates at 38-3.75.

Shambaugh won the pole vault event with a vault of 10-0. Dylan Vellinga took 2nd for the Bulldogs at 9-6. Gavin Hendricks placed fourth with Jackson Burt, both at 9-0. Caleb Anderson tied at 6th place for the Pirates at 8-6. Ashton Thornton tied for 8th place for the Bulldogs at 7-6. And VVHS athletes Kyle Dalton and Ethan Ofori tied for ninth place at 7-0.

The girls teams for both Bulldogs and Pirates saw several in the top 10 of their events.

Mattea Wahl and Linita Kioa tied for 7th place for the Bulldogs in the 100 meter dash with times of 13.91.

Wahl also took third place for the Bulldogs in the 200 meter dash with a time of 27-75.
Paige Fairchild finish sixth for the Pirates in the 400 meters at 1:05.18.
Talli Fairchild won the 800 meters with a time of 2:35.42. Mariam Werner placed sixth for the Pirates at 2:49.38.

Brooke Sherwood finished second for Moapa in the 1600 meters at 6:00.84. Teammate Sasha Barnes was fifth, 6:48.7. Bulldog Camryn Lee took 6th at 6:51.75. Faith Kelly placed eighth for the Pirates at 6:58.03. Gweneth Foster took 10th for the Pirates at 7:10.12.

Werner finished second in the 3200 meters with at time of 15:43.5. Afton Nelson was fourth, 16:05.46; and Faith Kelly was 5th at 16:09.89.

Pirate Taylee Bunch placed eighth in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 20.49. Bulldog Tori Faught took 9th at 20.51.

Bunch also placed seventh in the 300 meter hurdles with at time of 55.53. Anni Tobler placed 8th in the event for the Bulldogs at 55.73.

Audrey Fiso won the shot put event for the Bulldogs with a throw of 36-1. Haylie Western finished second for the Pirates at 33-4.75. Leyah Carvajal finished fourth, 30-6.5.

Fiso also took 6th place in the discus throwing at 87-3. Carvajal placed seventh in the event with a throw of 86-6.

Wynn Kelly took third place in the High Jump event for the Bulldogs with a leap of 4-8. Western placed fourth at 4-8. Claire Cox placed sixth for the Pirates at 4-8 and Werner was seventh, 4-8.
Hailey Vellinga took second place for the Bulldogs in the Pole Vault with a vault of 7-6. Audrey Wolfley placed third for the Pirates at 7-6. Pirate Daphne Auger placed sixth at 6-6. Kelsey Ellis took 8th for the Bulldogs at 6-0, while teammate Emma Houston took 10th at 6-0

Abbie Hammons was eighth in the long jump, 13-8.5. Wynn Kelly took 10th for the Bulldogs at 13-7.5.
Mattea Wahl secured second place for the Bulldogs in the triple jump with a jump of 29-4.5. Werner was third for the Pirates at 28-11. Western finished sixth, 28-2. Emma Houston ended at 9th for the Bulldogs at 26-2.

Virgin Valley will host the weekday meet on Thursday, April 6. The MVHS team will also be attending the meet.
