Pirates Beat SLAM, Sunrise Mtn; Lose to B.C.

The Moapa Valley High School baseball team played three games last week, finishing at 2-1 for the week.

On Tuesday, March 28, Garrett Hadley pitched a two hitter as the Pirates shut out the SLAM Bulls, 12-0, in five innings played at home. Hadley struck out ten and walked just a single batter.
The Pirates totalled nine hits in the game.

Tyson Pettingill was four for four at the plate with two doubles, a single and a double, chalking up three RBI.
Tyson Staheli hit a triple and drove in two runs.

The Pirates scored five runs in the second inning taking a 7-0 lead. They added two runs in the third and three more in the fourth to dominate the game.

On Thursday, the Pirates hosted Sunrise Mountain, and looted the Miners 21-0. This one ended in three innings due to the mercy rule.

Pettingill pitched a perfect game facing nine hitters and striking out all of them. He threw 43 pitches.
Staheli was two for two at bat, scoring three times and driving in four runs. Pettingill was two for two scoring a run and driving in three runs.
The Pirates scored 18 runs in the second inning.

On Friday, the Pirates traveled to Boulder City and were beaten 3-6 in seven innings.
Boulder City took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning. Spencer, Gibson and Landon Baker each drove in a run for the Eagles.

Moapa Valley tied the game in the top of the sixth. The Pirates could only get two hits for the game, both by Landon Wrzenesinski.
Boulder City scored 4 runs in the bottom of the fifth for the winning runs.

The Eagles had nine hits off of Tyson Staheli who took the loss. He threw 101 pitches to 30 Eagles batters.

Derek Reader was the winning pitcher for the Eagles as he allowed two runs and two hits in six innings. He struck out six Pirates.
The Pirates ended the week with a 9-5 record overall.

The Pirates hosted Virgin Valley the defending state champion on Monday, April 3. Then the team travelled to Hurricane, Utah for a game on Tuesday. See details on those games in next week’s edition.
