Though they out-hit their Boulder City rivals last week, the Moapa Valley High School softball team was unable pull off the victory. The Lady Pirates got behind early and just couldn’t make up enough ground during a game played in Boulder City on Tuesday, Mar. 28. The Eagles won the game 15-7.

The Eagles came out firing in the first inning. They pulled ahead of the Pirates by 2 runs on hits by Hailey Nordstrom and Baylee Cook.

Boulder City increased its lead by another seven runs in a huge third inning. The Pirates had still not put anything on the scoreboard.
Moapa Valley tried to stage a comeback in the fifth inning.

Reagan Stankosky put the first points on the board for the Pirates when she tripled on a hard ground ball to left field bringing home both Kylie Neil and Emmy Cornwall on the play.
A few moments later, Stankosky was crossing homeplate on a hit by Andie Wood.

Kyndall Longman doubled on a ground ball to left field bringing home Wood. Then Tyelar Anderson sent a line drive to left field which brought home both Longman and Lexi Fullman. The big inning left the Pirates trailing the Eagles 6-9.

Boulder City sealed the win in the next inning, matching the Pirates by putting another 6 runs of their own on the board and pulling ahead 15-6.

In the top of the seventh inning, Anderson hit a double that brought Longman home for another Pirate run. But that ended scoring in the game.

The Pirates batters got 9 hits in the game, compared to 8 hit by the Eagles. Stankoski, Longman and Anderson each got two hits while Neil, Cornwall and Kenzie Hughes got one apiece. Anderson batted three runners home in the game.

Wood pitched the loss allowing four hits, nine runs and striking out 3 over three innings. Neil threw three innings in relief giving away four hits and 6 runs while striking out 2.

In a home game played on Saturday, Mar. 26, the Pirates skunked the Valley Vikings 10-0. The Pirates got 9 hits in the game. Wood pitched a no-hitter striking out 10.

The Lady Pirates played a home game against Canyon Springs on Monday, April 3. See next week’s edition for details on that game.
