The Progress
The Moapa Valley High School boys volleyball team had a rough night in a home game against Clark High School on Tuesday, March 28, losing the match, 3-1.
The boys from Clark served first in set 1, and never looked back, winning 15-25.
The Pirates were behind the entire game, but never gave up. When the score was 3-5, the Chargers scored 7 points in a row.
Pirates server Trent Nelson served for 5 points but Clark finished on top.
In set 2, MVHS came back strong with Collin Sims and Jimmy Ward serving up a great game, while the boys at the net did their jobs blocking and spiking.
The Chargers got their momentum back in the third and fourth sets but the Pirates didn’t make it easy for them. Clark had a couple of great servers, who went on the attack scoring multiple points. Ultimately the Pirates fell to Clark, losing the last two sets, 19-25 and 20-25.
“The first set against Clark was brutal,” said MVHS head coach Tiffany Frederick. “I don’t know if the boys were nervous to play them at home in front of their peers or just not expecting them to be this good, but we started that set off with almost 15 errors in a row.”
“I’m sure we’ll see them again for state, and we will be ready,” Frederick added.
The Pirates travelled to Western on Thursday where they met the Warriors. Landon Kelly and Jayden Bunker led the team in kills and Collin Sims led in blocks. The team left with a 3-0 match: 25-15, 25-16, and 25-22.
On Friday, the Pirates faced off against Somerset Losee and came away again with a sweeping match victory: 25-16, 25-17 and 25-13. Landon Kelly had 10 kills, Jayden Bunker had 6 blocks and Ben Kernebeck had 5 aces.
The Pirates will play the Eldorado Sundevils at home on Thursday, April 6, at 6 pm.
