Bulldogs Host Weekday Track Meet

The Virgin Valley High School track team hosted a midweek meet on Thursday, April 6 in Mesquite. The meet was timed with hand-timers so the times could not be used for regional qualification and will not be noted.

In the boys competition, Degan Jones took third for the Pirates in the 100 meters with teammates Gary Leavitt and Tyson Redd tied at third.

Ethan Witter placed third for the Pirates in the 200 meter dash, Gary Leavitt took sixth and Lucas Sandberg ninth.

In the 400 meters Owen Rappleye finished second for the Bulldogs, while Pirates Sandberg and Trevor Witter finished fourth and fifth. Gavin Hughes of Virgin Valley placed seventh and Pirate runner Noah Christensen finished eighth.

MVHS senior Marcus Shambaugh placed first in the 800 meter run. Ethan Witter took second, Christiansen fourth and Trevor Witter fifth. Virgin Valley’s Kalen Jensen was sixth followed by Moapa’s Joseph Boss in 7th, and Virgin Valley’s Keyon Abbott in 8th.

In his second win, Shambaugh won the 1600 meters. Teammates Hal Thompson was fourth and Isaac Thompson was fifth. Virgin Valley’s Isaac Greig and Gavin Hughes were eighth and ninth. William Anderson of MVHS was tenth.

Rappleye won the 3200 for Virgin Valley. Moapa Valley’s Anderson, and Isaac Thompson placed third and fourth. VVHS senior Drew Maxfield placed fifth.

Brody Redd took 2nd for the Pirates in the 110 meter hurdles. Teammates Austin Robinson and Nicholas Leavitt were third and fifth in the race. Dylan Vellinga took seventh for Virgin Valley while Mason Wheeler placed ninth in the event for the Pirates.

Moapa Valley’s Logan Stewart won the shot put 42-11 with Jeremy Gosset placing second 42-5 for Virgin Valley. Gavyn Fredrick placed third 41-4.75 and Ryan Bellavance fourth 41-1.5.

Stewart also won the discus 130-7. Frederick placed third 95-3. Gossett for the Bulldogs was 6th 87-6 and Wesley Walker was eighth 83-11, for Virgin Valley.

Tanner Hammons won the high jump 5-10 for the Pirates, with teammates Degan Jones placing second 5-10 and Noah Rose placed seventh 5-0.
Shambuagh placed second in the pole vault at 11-0.

Chase Otteson won the long jump for Virgin Valley 19-7.25. Hammons was third 18-7 with Brody and Tyson Redd placing sixth and seventh, 18-4 and 18-3.25.

Otteson won the triple jump 40-2. Hammons was second for Moapa Valley 39-9, Tyson Redd fourth 36-5 and Brody 36-2

In the girls’ meet, Linita Kioa took second in the 100 meters for Virgin Valley. Teammates Logan Cude took third; Mattea Wahl, fourth; and Natali Isidro, seventh. Moapa Valley’s Ashlyn Drosos took eighth.

In the 200 meter dash, Virgin Valley won the top three places including Wahl, Kioa and Isidro. Emme Bowler took ninth for the Pirates.

MVHS senior Tallie Fairchild won the 400 meters. Sophie Tobler placed second for the Bulldogs and Khloe May fourth for the Pirates.

Tallie Fairchild also won the 800 meter race, with Paige Fairchild placing second and Brooke Sherwood placing third for the Pirates.

Sherwood won the 1600 with Miriam Werner placing second and Faith Kelly fourth, all for the Pirates. Virgin Valley’s Paola Nicolas was fifth and Kacie Garrett sixth.
Alison Mills won the 100 meter hurdles for the Pirates. Teammate Evelyn Ward was third. Tori Faught placed fourth for Virgin Valley while Taylee Bunch was fifth for Moapa Valley.

Ward and Bunch were second and third in the 300 meter hurdles. Anni Tobler was fourth for the Dawgs.
Audrey Fiso won the shot put for Virgin Valley 36-3.5. Hailey Western placed second at 32-7 Leyah Cavajah placed third 31-5 Claire Cox fourth at 28-1.5 and Sienna Neilson fifth 27-5, Addison Sherwood sixth 25-6.5, Callie Bennioon 25-0 all for Moapa Valley. VVHS freshman Julitsa Silveyra took 7th at 25-3.5,

Fiso won the discus as well with a throw of 80-0. Carvajal placed second 78-1. Silveyra placed 3rd at 75-7 and Callie Bennion fifth 69-4.

Cox placed second in the high jump 4-10, Wynn Kelly of Virgin Valley placed third. Western was fourth 4-8.

Vellinga for Virgin Valley placed second in the pole vault 7-6 while teammate Katelee Tiejemt finished third 7-3. Aubrey Wolfley from Moapa Valley placed fourth 7-0.

Emma Houston was second in the long jump for the Bulldogs 13-11.25. Abbey Hammons was fourth for Moapa Valley 13-6.

Wahl won the triple jump 28-10. Western for Moapa Valley was second 27-9.5. Tietjen third 27-4.5, and Houston 27-0.75 both of Virgin Valley. Wolfley of Moapa Valley was fifth 26-1.

Both schools will compete in Moapa Valley on Tuesday for another mid week meet.
