The Progress

The Virgin Valley High School softball team ran their win streak to 24 by winning a total of six games last week – five on the diamond and one off of it.

The Lady Bulldogs blew out Canyon Springs, 24-3, onWednesday afternoon, April 12 in North Las Vegas. The team then traveled to Payson, Utah on Saturday for a tournament in which they won four games against Utah schools.

Virgin Valley also picked up a win when its game with Desert Pines from back in March, which was stopped in the second inning by heavy rain with VVHS leading, was declared a win by CCSD.

Against Canyon Springs, Ari Easton collected four hits, including a pair of triples, and drove in five runs while Gracee Alejos had four hits and an RBI double to lead the Virgin Valley offense which scored 10 runs in the top of the first inning and added nine more runs in the third. Hali Jackson, Natalie Plancarte and Davie Slack each collected three hits for the Lady Bulldogs.

In the first game of the Payson tourney, the Lady Bulldogs eked out a 1-0 victory over Enterprise from Southern Utah. The only run of the contest scored in the top of the second when Riley Price was hit by a pitch and courtesy runner Ari Easton stole second base and came home on a single by Evia Toone.

Price went the distance inside the circle for VVHS allowing one hit, walking none and striking out 11 Enterprise batters.

The Lady Bulldogs defeated Union of Roosevelt, 12-7, in their second game which went five innings.
VVHS scored three runs in the first and six more in the third to pull away for the win. Plancarte led the way with three hits, three runs scored and two RBI. Price also had two hits and drove in two runs while Ana Tausinga added a two-run double. Reggi Frei, Brooklin Montoya and Slack chipped in with two hits apiece.

Against Timpview of Provo, the Lady Bulldogs prevailed 4-2. Frei singled to open the game and scored on a double by Montoya. Tausinga followed with an RBI-single. Montoya doubled and Price singled to put VVHS up 3-1 in the third. The final run scored in the fifth when Frei tripled and scored on Plancarte’s single.

Price pitched all five innings of the win walking three and striking out seven Timpview batters.
In the final game of the day, the Lady Bulldogs jumped on Gunnison early scoring three runs in the first and four more in the second in rolling to an 8-5 victory.

Frei led the way at the plate collecting three hits including two doubles while Julia Leavitt added a double and drove in two runs while going the distance inside the circle. Plancarte also doubled and drove in a run.
