MVHS Hosts Midweek Track and Field Meet

The Moapa Valley High School Track and Field program hosted a midweek meet on Tuesday, April 10. In attendance and ready to compete were teams from Virgin Valley, Shadow Ridge, Cheyenne, Mater East. and Pahranagat Valley high schools.

In the boys’ competition, Pirate sprinter Degan Jones place third in the 100 meters with a time of 11.75.
Ethan Witter placed third in the 400 meter race for the Pirates at 54.01. Isaiah Frieling took 9th in the event for the Bulldogs at 56.31

Marcus Shambaugh continued his winning ways for the Pirates by winning the 1600 meter race with a time of 4:40.33. Teammates Hal Thompson and William Anderson placed 8th and 9th respectively.

The Pirates placed four in the top five of the 3200 meters. Mordechai Yadegar won it with a time of 10:07.25. Isaac Thompson placed third, 11:08.46; William Anderson fourth, 11:14.88; and Hal Thompson fifth, 11:19.42.

Brody Redd was fifth in the 110 meter hurdles at 19.00 for the Pirates. Nicholas Leavitt took sixth, 19.49; Austin Robison seventh, 19.49; and Marc Villa eighth 20.01 – all running for Moapa. Dylan Vellinga took 9th in the race for Virgin Valley at 20.19.

In the 300 meter hurdles, Allen Galarza secured 3rd place for the Bulldogs with a time of 46.51. Villa also fourth for the Pirates at 46.63; with Robison finishing fifth, 46.76.

Logan Stewart placed second in the shot put with a throw of 42-00.5. Gavyn Frederick placed third 40-00.
Stewart went on to win the Discus with a throw of 131-04. Frederick finished third 112-03. Wesley Walker, of Virgin Valley, threw for 86-11 to make 9th place.

Degan Jones won the high jump with a jump of 6 feet. Tanner Hammons placed third, 5-08. Dylan Vellinga placed six for Virgin Valley at 5-02.

Shambaugh was third in the pole vault at 10-06, Vellinga took fourth at 10-00. Caleb Anderson was seventh at 9-00 with Gavin Hendricks placing eighth 9-00.

In the long jump event, Hammons was second at 20-09.25. Chase Otteson of Virgin Valley took fourth at 19-06.5; and Tyson Redd of Moapa Valley was sixth 18-04.5.

Otteson also won the triple jump going 41-04. Brody Redd jumped 39-09.5 for fourth place, Hammons was sixth 38-10.75 and Tyson Redd seventh 38-10. Villinga took 8th place at 36-10.
On the girls side of the meet, Virgin Valley’s Logan Cude place second in the 100 meters, 14.01. Teammates Mattea Wahl took sixth at 14.22; and Linita Kioa seventh 14.37.
Wahl then placed second in the 200 meters with a time of 27.88. Kioa took fifth 28.80.
Cude won the 400 meters at 1:05.26. Moapa Valley’s Khole May finished seventh at 1:12.14.

Talli Fairchild of Moapa Valley placed fourth in the 800 meters at 2:31.4. Kelsey Ellis of Virgin Valley was eighth at 3:02.51.

Brooke Sherwood finished second in the 1600 meters with a time of 6:00.87. Camryn Lee took 6th for Virgin Valley at 6:40.55. For the Pirates Faith Kelly was seventh 7:17.98, Afton Nelson eighth 7:39.76.
Sasha Barnes won the 3200 meters with a time of 14:32.04.
Allison Mills took second for the Pirates in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 18.6.
Taylee Bunch placed sixth in the 300 meter hurdles at 58.07. Evelyn Ward was seventh, 58.10; both from Moapa Valley.

Audrey Fiso won the shot put for the Bulldogs with a throw of 35-02. Moapa Valley’s Leyah Carvajal placed second, 33-05. Sienna Neilson was sixth, 29-04 and Addison Sherwood was eighth 26-10 – both for Moapa.

Fiso also won the discus with a throw of 92-10. Carvajal was second 91-04 and Claire Cox took fifth for the Pirates at 78-06. Janet Werner was seventh 70-05.

Cox won the high jump 5-00. Hailey Western was second at 4-08. Wynn Kelly of Virgin Valley was third jumping 4-08.

Aubrey Wolfley won the pole vault for the Pirates at 8-00. Vellinga was third 7-09. Katelee Tiejen and Emma Houston of Virgin Valley; as well as Moapa Valley’s Daphnee Auger all tied for fifth at 6-06.

The Moapa Valley teams will travels to Arbor View again on Wednesday for a mid-week meet. Virgin Valley travels to Legacy High School also on Wednesday.
