The Moapa Valley High School softball team steamrolled a visiting Sunrise Mountain team on Tuesday, April 11 with a score of 11-1 in five innings.
MVHS junior Andie Wood pitched a no-hitter striking out 10 batters in the mismatched game.
The Pirates put four runs on the board in the first inning alone. Lexi Fullman started the score-fest with a ground out that brought Reagan Stankoski home.
Kyndall Longman crossed home plate next on an error after Tyelar Anderson hit a single to left field.
A moment later Anderson scored on an error after Kylie Neil hit a single and advanced to second on the same error.
Neil then made it home when Emma Gollahon hit a ground ball and reached base on an error.
In the second inning, Fullman hit an inside-the-park homer bringing Wood home as well.
Longman reached home in the inning on a line drive to center field by Aracelli Castillo to finish the frame with a 7-0 score for the Pirates.
The Pirates scored four more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Emma Gollahan clobbered the Pirates’ second home run of the day in the inning driving home Castillo on the play as well.
The Miners put up their one run in the fifth inning on an error before the game was called by the mercy rule.
The Pirates got a total of nine hits in the game. Wood and Neil led the team in hits with two apiece. But both Fullman and Castillo each slugged in three RBI with one hit apiece. Gollahan got two RBI.
By the end of the week, the Pirates had an 8-4 overall record with 4-1 in league play. The team is ranked #2 in the 3A South-Mountain league.
The Moapa team will travel to Mesquite on Tuesday afternoon, April 18 to take on the #1 ranked team in the Mountain: Virgin Valley. The Bulldogs are undefeated this season with a 24-0 overall record and 8-0 in league. The big rivalry game starts at 3:30 pm.
