The Virgin Valley High School baseball team had no trouble winning a pair of home games played last week. In the first game, played on Tuesday, April 11 the Bulldogs pummelled the visiting Cheyenne team of Las Vegas, 16-0. Then they shut out Eldorado, 5-0, on Thursday, also on the Bulldog field.

Virgin Valley dominated the Desert Shields from the very beginning of the game, getting no less than 10 runs in the first inning.

VVHS sophomore Mason Montoya put the first runs on the board when he chalked up 2 RBI on a double to right field. A few moments later Montoya scored on a wild pitch.

Cade Litzenberger crossed home plate next on a passed ball. Then Braden Harris hit a single that brought home Dodger Smith. And that was only half the scoring in the first inning.

After a three-up-three-down second inning for the Desert Shields, The Bulldogs continued in their usual fashion chalking up six more runs on a series of hits, overthrown balls and wild pitches.
The Bulldogs scored their 16 runs on eight hits. Montoya, Harris and Drake Wakefield each got two hits. Montoya led his team with 3 RBI.

After three more straight outs in the third inning, the game was ended due to the mercy rule.
Chandon Jensen pitched for the win allowing only 1 hit in the game and striking out 2.
After spending the first four weeks of the season sitting out due to an injury during basketball season, VVHS senior Stratton Waite returned to the pitchers mound on Thursday and threw a shutout against a visiting Eldorado team.

Waite was pitching a perfect game going into the seventh inning when he allowed just three hits with no runs. Waite struck out nine Sundevil batters in the game.

Once again, the Bulldogs pulled ahead from the very beginning with four runs in the first inning. Then they added a fifth run in the sixth inning for the final score.

Kurt Felix got two hits in the game while Wakefield, Montoya, Jensen and Harris each got one hit. Smith got a hit that brought two runners home to lead his team in RBI.

The Virgin Valley team go on the road early this week. They will play at Sunrise Mountain in Las Vegas on Tuesday, April 18 and then go up against Canyon Springs on Wednesday, also in Las Vegas. The Bulldogs return to the home field on Friday to face their rival Moapa Valley team at 3:30 pm.
