VVHS Track Competes at Legacy Weekday Meet

The Virgin Valley High School track and field teams travelled to Legacy High School in Las Vegas for a midweek meet on Wednesday, April 19. The local athletes competed with four other schools in the meet and came away with a number of top ten finishes.

In the 100 meter dash the VVHS girls team put a couple of athletes in the top 10. Mattea Wahl finished in 9th place with a time of 13.57. Logan Cude took 10th at 13.64. Wahl went on to take 9th in the 200 meter race as well at 28.24.

Owen Rappleye made the top ten in the 800 meter run for the Bulldogs. He ended with a time of 2:11.17 taking 7th place.

Camryn Lee took 8th in the 800, on the girls side, crossing the finish at 2:58.92. Teammate Kelsey Ellis took 10th in the event at 3:00.66.

Rappleye really shined in the 1600 meter run. He took first place with a time of 4:57.29. Teammates Isaac Greig and Gavin Hughes came in 5th and 6th place with times of 5:10.71 and 5:19.93 respectively.

For the girls, Jasmine Aguilar took 5th in the 1600 meter race finishing at 6:26.06. Lee took 9th in the race at 6:40.94.
Audrey Fiso dominated in the Girls’ Discus with a throw of 90-1 for first place.

On the Boys side, Decker Lee took 6th place in the discus with a throw of 90-1. Teammate Wesley Walker threw 87-1 for 8th place.

Wynn Kelly took 2nd in the High Jump for the Bulldog Girls team with a leap of 4-4. Hailey Vellinga took 4th at 4-2.

Kyle Dalton and Ethan Ofori tied for fifth place in the Pole Vault event at 8-6 each. The girls team had a similar fifth place tie with Vellinga and Katelee Tietjen both vaulting at 7-0.

Emma Houston took 4th in the Long Jump for the Bulldogs with a leap of 13-11. Kelly ended 8th with 12-10 and Vellinga took 9th at 12-8.

In the Triple Jump, Mattea Wahl led the Bulldogs taking 4th place at 28-3.50. Emma Houston took 6th at 27-9.50 and Katelee Tietjen ended 7th at 24-9.
