Bulldog Baseball Wins Three On The Road

By VERNON ROBISON

The Progress

The Virgin Valley High School Baseball team played three games on the road last week. They took blowout victories in two league games, beating Western 17-0 on Wednesday, April 26 and crushing Cheyenne 20-0 on Saturday. They also went up against the 5A Liberty Patriots on Thursday and ended up with a 0-15 loss against the larger school.

It was never even close in Wednesday’s game against Western. The Bulldogs stepped out ahead in the top of the second inning putting 5 runs on the board. They chalked up another 8 runs in the fourth inning and topped things off with another four runs in the fifth when the contest was ended on the mercy rule.

Bryce Intagliati got the win from the mound for the Bulldogs. He pitched three innings only allowing one hit while striking out seven and walking none. Chandon Jensen threw two innings in relief allowing no hits and 2 strikeouts.

The Bulldog batting lineup slammed 16 hits in the game with nearly every batter putting up numbers. Drake Wakefield got 3 hits and 3 RBI in the game. Mason Montoya also got three hits and 2 RBI. Stratton Waite got two hits and drove home 3 runners.

On Thursday, the Bulldogs got left behind from the beginning against 5A Liberty as the Patriots scored 9 runs in the first inning alone. Liberty would put up another four runs in the 3rd and 2 runs in the fourth inning before the game was called.

Martin started on the hill for the Bulldogs giving up five runs on three hits in about one third of an inning. The Bulldogs then cycled through Matthew Hughes, Braden Harris and Kurt Felix allowing each to contribute in relief. But the Liberty batting lineup could not be stopped.

Bulldog batters put up only two hits in the game with Wakefield and Intagliata each managing to connect with the ball once.

The Virgin Valley team was undaunted by the loss as they went up against Cheyenne on Saturday. They mowed through the Desert Shields putting up 9 runs in just the first inning. By the end of the fourth inning the Dawgs had scored 20 unanswered runs before the mercy rule was invoked.
Waite was the winning pitcher going three innings allowing no hits and striking out 2. Jared Jensen came in for relief pitching two innings and also shutting out the Cheyenne batters from hitting anything.

The Bulldog lineup got 14 hits in the game. Felix got three hits and brought home 5 runners, hitting a home run in the third inning. Wakefield also got 3 hits with 1 RBI.

This week, the Bulldogs end their regular season hosting two games. The team goes up against Parowan on Tuesday starting at 3:30 pm on the home field. Then they will host Sunrise Mountain on Thursday, also at 3:30 pm.
