The Progress
The MVHS Boys volleyball team racked up two more wins last week, bringing their record to 13-8 overall.
Last Tuesday, April 25, the team hosted Coral Academy and won in 4 sets: 25-22, 20-25, 26-24 and 28-26.
“Beating Coral was a sweet victory! said head coach Tiffany Frederick. “After losing to them in 5 sets 2 weeks ago, mostly due to mentally shutting down, we had them work on their mentality and building each other up through the good and bad,”
The boys were faced with some tough calls. “I was super proud of how they handled it and instead of playing it safe and just getting the ball over, they played aggressive and put the ball away!” commented Frederick.
Ben Kernebeck had his best game this season against a tough Coral defense. He stuffed down 18 kills and had 10 aces in the game.
On Thursday, the Pirates traveled to face Eldorado for the second time this season.
After winning the first 2 sets, the team had a rough go and lost the 3rd set. But in the 4th set the Pirates shook it off and won it by 2 points. Match scores were: 25-19, 25-23, 14-25 and 26-24.
“Eldorado is super scrappy and it was hard to put the ball away,” Frederick said.
Jayden Bunker was on fire and ended up with 12 kills and 3 aces.
*After The Progress went to press, Monday, May 1, the team traveled to Sunrise Mountain. The game was hard fought and a nail-biter, but the Pirates were victorious in 5 sets.
The team had their rivalry match against Virgin Valley on Tuesday, May 2 at home. They won in 3 sets.
The Pirates will host Desert Pines on Thursday, May 4, for Seniors night to finish the regular season play.
