Pirate softball loses close game to Clark in Regionals first round 2-3

By VERNON ROBISON’

The Progress

A stroke of misfortune in the final inning suddenly sent the first round Regional playoff game in the wrong direction for the Moapa Valley High School softball team bringing a 2-3 loss to Clark High School in a game played on the Chargers’ turf in Las Vegas.

The Pirates were up 2-1 going into the bottom of the 7th. But then a Clark batter hit a ground ball and reached base on an error that also allowed two runs for the Chargers and ended the game with the Pirates down.

The Moapa girls started out strong, getting a run in the top of the first inning. Andie Wood scored from 3rd base on a passed ball.

The Pirates scored again in the third inning when Reagan Stankoski stole home for a 2-0 lead.

Clark was able to get a run in the sixth inning when  S. Paredes scored on a passed ball to put the Chargers on the board.

That is where the score remained until the fateful last play of the final inning.

Kylie Neil took the loss for the Pirates, pitching six innings, allowing three hits and striking out seven.

Not much was happening for the Pirates at the plate. Wood got the only hit for the Pirates out of three at-bats.

The loss drops the Pirates into the consolation bracket where they will face Canyon Springs on Tuesday at 4 pm on the Pirate field.
