MVHS Boys Team Wins Boulder City Invitational

The track and field teams of Moapa Valley High School and Virgin Valley High School both traveled to Boulder City on Friday, May 5, to face 14 other teams throughout the region in an invitational meet.

The Moapa boys team won the meet with 168 team points. The Virgin Valley boys took 6th with 52.5 points.

The Pirate girls took 2nd place with a team score of 109.5 points. The Lady Bulldogs took fourth with 77 team points.

On the boys side, Degan Jones placed second in the 100 meters for the Pirates.
Ethan Witter placed fourth for MVHS in the 400 meters. Isaiah Frieling placed 9th for the Bulldogs.
Marcus Shambaugh won the 800 meter race for Moapa with a time of 2:04.06. Owen Rappleye took 6th for the Bulldogs. Gavin Hendricks placed 8th and Joseph Boss ended in 10th.

Shambaught also won the 1600 with a time of 4:44.74. Rappleye was right behind him in 2nd at 4:45.34. Isaac Thompson placed sixth with William Anderson placing eighth; both for the Pirates.

Mordechai Yadeger won the 3200 with a time of 9:58.37 for the Pirates. Anderson placed third and Thompson fourth, both for Moapa.

Brody Redd was fourth in the 110 meter hurdles. Virgin Valley’s Allen Galarza took 6th. Austin Robinson was seventh for the Pirates.
Galarza took 5th in the 300 meter hurdles. Trevor Witter placed sixth for the Pirates.

Logan Stewart won the shot put with a personal best throw of 48-8. Bulldog Jeremy Gossett threw for 5th place. Gavyn Frederick placed sixth for the Pirates.
Stewart was also third in the discus while Fredrick finished fifth.

Tanner Hammons won the high jump clearing 6-0 feet. Jones was second. Wyatt Leavitt placed 6th for the Bulldogs.

Dylan Vellinga won the pole vault for the Bulldogs a personal best of 11-0. Nicholas Leavitt placed third for the Pirates with teammates Caleb Anderson, Jackson Burt and Alan Werner all tied for fifth.
Hammons placed third in the triple jump with Brody Redd finishing fourth and Tyson Redd fifth for the Pirates.

On the girls’ side of the meet, Mattea Wahl took 7th in the 100 meter dash for the Bulldogs. She also finished 6th in the 200 meters.
Sophie Tobler got a 3rd place finish in the 400 meter run with a personal best of 1:05.39.

Talli Fairchild placed first for Moapa in the 800 meters with a time of 2:32.37. Paige Fairchild placed third. Virgin Valley’s Kelsey Ellis took 8th.

Jasmine Aguilar placed 3rd for the Bulldogs in the 1600 meter race with teammate Ava Woods finishing in 6th place.

Andrea Bell placed third in the 3200 meters with Janet Werner placing fifth; both for Moapa Valley.
Allison Mills took third for Moapa in the 100 meter hurdles. Evelyn Ward took 6th, Taylee Bunch 8th, and Ariana Lester 9th; all for the Pirates.
Mills also took sixth in the 300 meter hurdles. Bunch ended in 10th.

Audrey Fiso won the shot put with a throw of 35-4.5. Leyah Carvajal finished third for the Pirates while Sienna Neilson finished seventh.

Carvajal was second in the discus while Fiso took 3rd. Callie Bennion took 8th place for the Pirates.
Pirate athlete Claire Cox won the high jump at 4-10. Wynn Kelly took 5th in the event for the Bulldogs. Miriam Werner finishing sixth for Moapa.

Hailey Vellinga won the pole vault for Virgin Valley with a personal record 8-3. Aubrey Wolfley took 2nd for the Pirates at 7-6.

Emma Houston brought home a 3rd place for VVHS in the long jump event with a personal best 14-6.
Werner also placed fifth in the triple jump. Wahl of VVHS took 7th.

Next week is the region track meet in Boulder City. The top four finishers in each event will qualify for the state championships. The MVHS boy’s team is the defending state champion.
