Bulldog baseball falls to Boulder City in 2nd round Regionals

The Virgin Valley High School baseball team struggled in in the second round of the Southern Regional playoffs on Tuesday, May 9, and ended up with a loss to the Boulder City Eagles 3-1 in the game.

The Dawgs started their ace Bryce Intagliata who performed well giving
up only one run in five innings. Intagliata allowed only 4 hits and struck
out 4 Eagles during his stint on the mound.

The Bulldog batters outhit the Eagles 7-5 but managed only one run against two Eagle pitchers.

The Dawgs got on the board first with one run in the top of the first to take an early lead. Bulldog leadoff batter Drew Wakefield reached first on error, followed by a single by Kurt Felix advancing Wakefield to second base. Chandon Jensen brought Wakefield in for the Bulldogs eventual
only run of the game.

The Bulldogs left two on base in the second and third innings failing to score with players on first and third.

Jared Jensen singled in the third, plus a walk, to set the Dawgs up. But the potential rally
failed.

Starter Intagliata gave up a double to start the bottom of the fourth inning which led to an Eagle run to tie the game at 1-1 after four innings.

The Bulldogs had another opportunity slip away in the top of the fifth but a Mason Montoya double went for naught.

The Bulldogs removed starter Intagliata for the bottom of the sixth inning. The Bulldogs relievers could not hold back the Eagles allowing the winning runs with two outs on one single, two hit batters and a walk.

Eagle reliever D. Render shut down the Dawgs in the seventh to seal the win.

With the loss, the Bulldogs now drop to the consolation bracket where they will play Western on Wednesday afternoon in Mesquite. Game time is at 4 pm.
