The Moapa Valley High School baseball team beat SLAM, 4-3, in a Southern Regional playoff game held at MVHS on Wednesday afternon, May 10.
SLAM built an early 1-0 lead in the first inning. The Bulls widened the gap with another run in the top of the third, only to see the Pirates put their first three runs on the board at the bottom of the frame. Moapa scored another run in the 4th inning for a 4-2 score.
The Pirates held onto that lead until the final inning when SLAM got one more run to make the final score.
Tyson Staheli go the win, pitching three innings, allowing 2 hits and striking out 5.
The win brings the two rivals on a collision course again. Moapa Valley will travel to Boulder City on Thursday afternoon for a 1 pm game against Virgin Valley, who won their consolation bracket Wednesday against Western.
The winner will face Boulder City in the second game at 4:30pm . That winner advance’s to the region championship game and earns a birth in the state championship tournament at Virgin Valley.
