The rivalry baseball teams of Moapa Valley High School and Virgin Valley High School met in Boulder City on Thursday afternoon to determine who would advance in the NIAA Southern Regional Championships. It was a hard-fought game which ended which ended with a Bulldog victory, 8-4.
Moapa took an early 1-0 lead in the third inning. But Virgin Valley roared to life in the very next frame, scoring five runs after loading the bases with no outs.
Moapa Valley came back with a run in the bottom of the fourth.
But the Dawgs increased the gap in the fifth. With bases loaded, Jared Jensen hit a single bringing in two runners for a 7-2 lead.
Virgin Valley added an eighth run in the top of the sixth inning.
Moapa was able to score two runs in the bottom of the seventh. But that was it.
Virgin Valley advanced to play Boulder City this afternoon. That game determines who will play in the final round against Pahrump on Friday, for the Region Championship.
