Bulldogs’ 6-run rally defeats Eagles, 11-8

By LOU MARTIN

The Progress

It was do or die on Thursday afternoon, May 11, in Boulder City as the Virgin Valley High School baseball team found themselves on the short end of an 8-5 deficit to the host Eagles with only three outs remaining in the game. But as the famous Yankee, Yogi Berra, said “It ain’t over till it’s over!”

The Bulldogs showed grit in the top of the seventh inning scoring 6 runs to defeat the Eagles and advance to the 3A Southern Championship matchup with Pahrump Valley on Friday.

The win also assured the Dawgs a place in next week’s 3A State Championship which begins next Wednesday, May 18 on the Bulldogs field.

The Bulldog rally began with a hit batter sending Mason Montoya to first base. Chandon Jensen followed with a single to second advancing Montoya to second. The next batter flew out to second base making the Dawgs’ rally more difficult.

A wild pitch by D. Spencer advanced the two Bulldog runners to second and third. Bulldog Jared Jensen worked the Eagles pitcher for a walk setting up a bases loaded situation with Cade Litzenberger coming up to bat.

Litzenberger cleared the bases with a double to left field knotting the game up 11-11 with only one out on the Dawgs.

The Eagles got the second out on a ground ball to second.

Drew Wakefield walked, bringing Bryce Intagliata up next to the plate. Intagliata lined a fast ball to center for a double, scoring Litzenberger and Wakefield. Mavrick Ludvigson came in as runner for Intagliata.

Kurt Felix singled with Ludvigson scoring on an error on the play. The inning ended on a ground out.

The Eagles were now under the gun as the Dawgs brought in their ace, Intagliata, to pitch the last inning. Intagliata struck out two batters and got the other on a fly ball to end an incredible game.

Felix led the Dawgs with 3 hits followed by Dodger Smith, Intagliata and Litzenberger with two hits each.
