The Progress
The Virgin Valley High School softball team continued its domination of the NIAA Southern Region on Wednesday afternoon, May 10; chalking up another victory against Boulder City, 11-0, in a game played in Boulder City.
The Bulldogs have shut out every team that has come against them this week, allowing their opponents no runs and only 5 hits, while scoring a total of 44 runs in the three games of the tournament thus far.
On Wednesday, the Dawgs scored their 11 runs on 13 hits. They chalked up 7 runs in the second inning to step out to a commanding lead early on. Then they added another four runs in the fourth inning to seal the deal. The game was called on the mercy rule at the end of the fifth inning.
Powerhouse pitcher Riley Price went all five innings in the circle for the Bulldogs allowing two hits and striking out 9.
Ana Tausinga led the team on offense going 3 of 3 at the plate and bringing in 2 runners for the Bulldogs. Also getting multiple hits were Reggi Frei, Natalie Plancarte, Brooklyn Montoya and Evia Toone. Montoya slugged one over the fence for a home run in the second inning.
The Bulldogs now get to sit out a couple of games while the consolation bracket sorts out who will face them in the final round of the tournament. Moapa Valley goes up against Clark on Thursday at 2 pm in Boulder City. The winner of that game will face Boulder City at 4:30 pm. This round will decide who will face the Bulldogs on Friday at 4 pm at Virgin Valley for the Southern Regional Championship.
