Pirate Volleyball Wins, Moves on to Next Round

The Moapa Valley High School boys volleyball team won its NIAA south region quarterfinal match on Thursday evening, May 11, at a home game against the Eldorado Sundevils.

In the first set, MVHS came from behind and barely won 29-27. There were a lot of hitting errors and blocking errors, but also a lot of kills and aces

In the 2nd set the team came out on fire! With 15 kills and only 2 hitting errors the Pirates beat the Sundevils by 10 points, 25-15.

But Eldorado was not yet ready to take their ball and go home at that point. They rallied back to win the 3rd and 4th sets: 18-25 and 23-25. With too many errors and only 6 kills, the Pirates seemed to have trouble in pulling out of the slump. But there was still fire left in them.

The 5th set was neck and neck, when Collin Sims served up 3 points that put the Pirates up to 12-9. Then Jimmy Ward got them up to 14 and missed the game point serve.

Eldorado got up to 11 then missed a serve to give MVHS the game point and win!

“It was super stressful for us but fun for everyone watching!” said MVHS head coach Tiffany Frederick. “All these boys dug deep, rallied together and played their hearts out, and it paid off in the end. This was our last time playing on our home court so it was a bitter sweet night, especially for these 8 seniors. I’m so glad we get one more bus ride together as a team, even though it’s to Boulder City. But hey! Anything could happen!”

The team will now travelled to play the Boulder City Eagles on Monday night May 15 at 6 PM.

They lost the match 3-1, ending the season.
