The Moapa Valley High School baseball team finished its season last week in the 3A South regional tournament with two wins and two losses. The Pirate team came into the tournament as the #1 seed of the Desert Division.
The Pirates beat the Western Warriors in the first round game, 10-0. Schouten, Totten and Houston all had two RBI’s in the game to lead Moapa Valley. Schouten was the winning pitcher going three innings. He struck out six. Western had two hits in the game.
The win advanced the Pirates to a Tuesday round against Pahrump Valley. The Trojans beat the Pirates 9-4. The Trojans jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning that Moapa Valley couldn’t come back from. Gavin Hadley allowed 6 earned runs and seven total in the loss. Moapa Valley had only one hit in the game.
This dropped the Pirates into the consolation bracket where they went up against SLAM on Wednesday and won 4-3. SLAM got an early lead with a run in the first inning and another in the top of the third. Moapa put three runs on the board in the bottom of the inning giving them a lead that they would keep throughout the game.
Tyson Staheli got the win for the Pirates going 3 innings, giving away 2 hits and striking out 5.
Virgin Valley eliminated the Pirates in game four on Thursday afternoon, 8-4.
Staheli led the Pirate offense in the game with 2 hits in 3 at-bats and 2 RBI.
Staheli took the loss pitching 5 innings, allowing 5 hits and 7 runs, while striking out 5.
