Wrangler Junior Rodeo Holds End-of-Season Banquet

Young recipients display their awards at the Wrangler Junior Rodeo Association banquet held last month in Mesquite.

Over 243 people attended the Wrangler Junior Rodeo Association (WJRA) banquet last month to see the young cowboys and cowgirls celebrate their accomplishments at the end of the season. The event was held at the Casablanca Resort in Mesquite, Nevada.

Awards were presented, paid for by sponsorships that each WJRA member is expected to secure along with numerous other donations by local businesses.

Individual events and all around leaders were given accolades at the banquet. The top 5 of each event were recognized along with different prizes for each placing.

In the senior age category (ages 13 to 18), the girls team roping top 5 were Evie Davis, Madison Solis, Raelee Christian, Hayden Wisner and Fallon Yardley.

Senior girls goat tying top 5: Allie Frehner, Raelee Christian, Fallon Yardley, Charlize Brinkerhoff and Evie Davis.

Senior girls barrel racing top 5 were: Evie Davis, Raelee Christian, Allie Frehner, Fallon Yardley, Valentina Espinoza

Senior boys team roping top 5: Morgan Williams, Carlos Baspoli, Hunter Fryi, Wyatt Williams and Porter Solis.

Senior boys steer stopping top 5: Cade Steward, Morgan Williams, Wyatt Williams, CJ Christian, and Hunter Fry.

Senior boys flags top 5: Hunter Fry, Morgan Williams, Carlos Baspoli, Cade Steward, and Porter Solis.

For the junior age category (age 8-12) the girls team roping top five were Dallie Griffith, Shelby Fry, Halsey Grifith, Tegun Sleppy, Sage Spencer .

Junior girls poles top five:Gracie Snow, Kylie Cox, Shelby Fry, Brylee Stotler, and Dallie Grifith.
Junior girls goat tying top 5: Shelby Fry, Tegun Sleppy, Kaysen Wisner, Adlee Robinson and Dallie Griffith.

Junior Girls Breakaway roping top five: Shelby Fry, Dallie Griffith, Tegun Sleppy, Halsey Grifith and Dezlee Brinkerhoff.

Junior girls barrel racing top five were: Kylie Cox, Brylee Stotler, Dallie Grifith, Shelby Fry, and Pailynn Zarndt.

Junior boys team roping top five: Stihl Yardley, Gatlin Sleppy, Chet Walch, JT Tibbitts and Brandt Bunker.

Junior boys steer stopping top five: Gatlin Sleppy, Chet Walch, Stihl Yardley, JT Tibbitts and Preston Young.

Junior boys goat tying top five: Rylan Sproul, Chet Walch, Gatlin Sleppy, Brody Winchell and Stihl Yardley.

Junior boys flags top five: Chet Walch, Kade Mitschke, Brock Mcdaniel, Gatlin Sleppy and Brody Winchell.

The PeeWee (age 3-7) Girls poles top 5: Hadlee Steele, Bethany Rose Snyder, Emerson Bennet, Kinsley Robinson, and Madilynn Milward.

Peewee girls goat tail pull top five: Hadlee Steele, Codie Sherwood, Bethany Rose Snyder, Harper Robinson, and Madilynn Millward.

Peewee girls dummy roping top five: Bethany Rose Snyder, Hadlee Steele, Harper Robinson, Blakely Young and Code Sherwood.

Peewee Girls Barrel Racing top five: Hadlee Steele, Bethany Rose Snyder, Madelynn Millward, Codie Sherwood and Emerson Bennet.

Peewee boys goat tail pull top five: Emmet Knaub, Cooper Christian, Stetson Steele, Bradley Topol, and Kasyn Mitschke.

Peewee boys flags top five: Stetson Steele, Bradley Topol, Emmett Knaub, Cooper Christian and Zane Leatham.

Peewee boys dummy roping top five: Emmett Knaub, Bradley Topol, Stetson Steele, Zane Leatham and Cooper Christian.

Peewee boys barrel racing top five were: Emmett Knaub, Cooper Christian, Stetson Steele, Bradley Topol, and Emmett Hunt.

A special award is selected each year by Walter Sleppy of Sleppy Construction, an active grandparent and supporter of WJRA. He watches the kids WJRA season and observes their behavior both in and out of the arena and selects a cowboy and cowgirl from the peewee and junior age categories to earn the title of most improved. The peewee girl that was selected was: Marty Sleppy, Peewee Boy: Ridge Bennett, Junior Boy: Brock McDaniel, Junior Girl: Sage Spencer.

The Gar Griffith Memorial buckle was also presented to a young person who exhibits grit and determination with a helpful attitude. This award was given to Cooper Christian of Alamo.

Harper Robison of Alamo won the Jacque Ward Memorial Buckle awarded to a young cowgirl each year that showcases a good attitude and the determination to continue the sport of rodeo.

Scholarships were awarded to one senior boy and one senior girl. The $1,000 scholarships were presented to Addie Hillius of Mesquite and Carlos Baspoli of Alamo.
