The Moapa Valley High School girls basketball team hosted the Cedar City Reds on Friday night, Dec. 15 and lost their second game of the season, 35-31.
The game had a promising start for the Pirates. The team built a small seven point lead by halftime leading 21-14.
But then the Lady Pirates went cold for the rest of the game scoring only 10 points in the second half.
Both teams struggled dropping the ball through the hoop in the third quarter, scoring only four points apiece.
But the Reds found their fire in the final quarter scoring 17 points to the Pirates’ 6.
Andie Woods led the Pirates scoring with 10 in the game. Savana Burt scored 7.
Moapa Valley was 2-15 from 3-point range with Claire Cox missing all eight of her 3-point attempts.
The loss gives the Pirates a 7-2 overall record with no league games played yet.
The Pirates will travel to Bullhead City, Arizona this week where they will participate in the Holiday Shootout tournament. They will play five games over three days.
The first will be against White Pine whom the Pirates have already beaten this season, 49-16
On Tuesday, the team will play Mojave Accelerated, then River Valley.
On Wednesday they take on Lincoln County. Then they face the Pahrump Valley team on Thursday.
The Pirates have beaten Lincoln County this year, 68-30.
