MVHS senior Andie Wood signs to play college softball flanked by her parents Jen and Craig Woods.

Moapa Valley High School senior Andie Wood signed on last week to play softball at the college level.
“I am excited!” Wood said of the next chapter of her life.

Wood who plays pitcher for the Pirates also was known for smacking the bat. She has decided to play the sport next year for Lassan College in Susandale, California.
“They saw her recruiting video and stats online and reached out,” said Andie’s father Craig Wood of the Lassan College softball staff.

Craig said the funny part is that her mother Jen played basketball at Lassan during her college career.
“(Andie) always wanted to play softball for a smaller college and she absolutely fell in love with this one,” Craig said.

Lassan is known for its full community support and being within a more traditional system of values.
Andie turned down several other scholarship offers to play softball within the states of California and Colorado as well as several in the eastern U.S.

She has been playing since third grade and has been playing club softball in her more recent years, mainly in St. George, Utah for the Diamond D’s.

She was raised in Moapa Valley since her parents moved back to the area in 2004. Both of her parents were multiple sport athletes for Moapa Valley High School in late 1990s. They were best known for basketball.

Wood has maintained a near perfect 4.0 GPA and even has completed college classes and credits.
“It is going to be a ton of work and a big commitment but she is very coachable,” Craig said.
Besides sports, Andie loves to hang out with friends. Her educational goals include studies in dental hygiene.

The college coaching staff plans on using her in multiple positions within the sport. Her high school career included 2022-2023 season stats of 2.43 ERA and 0.481 BA and 20 RBI.
The 2024 softball season starts next week with practices.

Andie and her family expressed thanks to the community for the continuous support and her family and friends for attending the small signing celebration.
Andie is the daughter of Craig and Jen Wood of Moapa Valley.
