Pirate track wins Ken Jensen Invitational

The Moapa Valley High School track and field teams swept the Ken Jensen Track Invitational in Mesquite on Friday, Mar. 8.

The Pirates boy team scored 263 points, almost doubling the second place Virgin Valley team who scored 134.5 points in the meet.

The MVHS girls team scored 266 points while White Pine placed second with 105 points. Virgin Valley placed 4th in the girls competition with 77 points.

Defending 100 meter state champion Degan Jones won the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.91. Gary Leavitt placed fourth.
Jones finished second in the 200 meters with Jacob Dominguez placing 4th and Virgin Valley’s Mark Davis placing 5th.

MVHS freshman Brenden Van Vliet won the 400 meters with a time of 58.28 Karsen Garrett and Keyan Abbott both of Virgin Valley placed 3rd and 4th in the race.

Mordechai Yadegar won the 800 meters. The junior ran it in 2:12.51. MVHS senior Gavin Hendricks placed 3rd and Virgin Valley’s Kalen Jensen placed 4th.

Yadegar also ran a 4:41.48 in the 1600 meters for his second win of the day. Dylan Barnum and Gavin Hughes respectively brought 3rd and 4th place in the event for Virgin Valley.

Barnum won the 3200 meters with a time of 11:13.43. Moapa Valley had the next four placers in that race with William Anderson, B.J. Robison, James Nunez and Grant Conger.

Brody Redd won the 110 meter hurdles for Moapa Valley with a time of 17.67. Fellow Pirates Ryker Katich and Ellis Porter were 2nd and 3rd. Rylan Jones placed 4th in the race for the Bulldogs.

Joaquin Ramirez brought the win for the Bulldogs in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 46.9. Moapa Valley’s Ty Clucas placed 3rd. Virgin Valley’s Rylan Jones placed 4th.

MVHS senior Logan Stewart won the shot put with a throw of 46-0 feet. Jeremy Gossett placed 3rd for the Bulldogs and Gavyn Fredrick placed 4th for the Pirates.
Stewart also won the discus with a throw of 140-00 feet breaking his personal record. Frederick placed second.

Tanner Hammons placed 4th in the high jump for Moapa.
Hammons also won the long jump with a leap of 19-05. Tyson Redd placed 4th in the event for Moapa.
Hammons finished 3rd in the triple jump.

MVHS senior Jackson Burt placed 2nd in the pole vault and teammate Caleb Anderson placed 4th.
In the girls competition, MVHS freshman Abby Palmer won the 100 meters with a time of 14.32. Ashlyn Drosos placed second and Daisie Gordon 4th, both for the Pirates.

Addison Leavitt won the 200 meters for the Pirate team with a time of 30.72. MVHS freshman Amber Bodily placed 2nd and Drosos finished 3rd.
MVHS freshman Kelsie Wagasky won the 400 meters with a time of 1:10.27. Teammate Callie Bennion placed 3rd.

VVHS senior Jenna Walters won the 800 meters with a time of 2:40.48.
Walters also won the 1600 and 3200 meters with times of 5:41.72 and 12:54.37 respectively.

Mckayla Western placed 3rd in the 1600 for the Pirates while Andrea Bell placed 4th for Moapa Valley.
Bell also placed 3rd in the 3200 meters.

MVHS senior Allison Mills won the 100 meters hurdles and teammate Taylee Bunch placed 4th. Celeste Guzman placed 2nd for the Bulldogs.

VVHS junior Audrey Fiso won the shot put with a throw of 34-04. Haylie Western and Sienna Neilson secured the second and third place spots for the Pirates in the event.
Fiso also won the discus with a throw of 94-03. She is the defending state champion in the event. MVHS junior Claire Cox placed second.

Cox also won the high jump at 4-08. Mills and Western finished 3rd and 4th.
Moapa Valley’s Amber Bodily won the pole vault at 7-09. VVHS sophomore Kelsey Ellis placed third and MVHS sophomore Nicole Patterson placed 4th.

MVHS senior Savanna Burt placed 2nd in the long jump with teammate Abbie Hammons placing 3rd.
Hailey Western placed 3rd in the triple jump.
