The Progress
The Moapa Valley High School softball team started the season last week playing three games and finishing 2-1.
The Pirates started their season on the road against Sunrise Mountain on Monday, March 4. MVHS sophomore Kylie Neil pitched a no-hitter in the game. The Pirates beat the Miners 10-0.
Kyndal Longman pounded out 3 RBI’s while going 3-3 at the plate.
Deja Bradshaw was 4-4 with an RBI and four scored runs.
The Pirates scored a run in the first, then 3 runs in each of the next three innings before closing the game out in the fifth.
Then on Wednesday the Pirates hosted the SLAM Bulls at a beautifully groomed Moapa park, which will be the team’s home field this season. The Pirates won the game in six innings 13-3.
Moapa Valley scored 5 runs in the bottom of the sixth to end the game.
Longman hit her first home run of the season and scored 5 RBI’s in the game to lead the Pirates.
Emmy Cornwall was 3-4 from the plate and drove in 3 RBI’s.
On Friday, things got tougher for the Moapa team. The Pirates traveled to Pahrump Valley where the Trojans beat the Pirates 13-10.
Pahrump Valley scored 5 runs in the bottom of the seventh as darkness made it very difficult to see the ball.
“We ran out of sunlight for the decisions that were needed to clinch it,” said MVHS head coach Stacie Stilson. “They had no lights on their field there in Pahrump!”
Neil had a big game as she finished with 3 hits and drove in 3 runs for the Pirates.
The Pirates had made some errors and left a few girls on base.
