VVHS softball wins six games on the week

The Virgin Valley High School softball team feasted on six mostly outmanned opponents as they opened the season with six victories.
The Lady Bulldogs outscored their competition 113-6 with five of the six contests halted by the NIAA mercy rule.

Virgin Valley posted wins over The Meadows School of Las Vegas (26-2), Sunrise Mountain (31-0), Lincoln County (12-1), White Pine of Ely (4-2), Pahranagat Valley (18-1) and Bonanza (22-0).

In the victory over The Meadows, Julia Leavitt drove in four runs and Mercedes Jordan collected four hits in the three-inning contest.

Against Sunrise Mountain, all nine starters collected at least three hits apiece for the Lady Bulldogs as they totaled 31 base hits. Reggi Frei and Leavitt had four hits each with Leavitt and Davey Slack driving in four runs apiece.

Leavitt threw a no-hitter against Lincoln County while walking one batter and striking out 10. Blythe Moser had three hits to lead the offense with Slack and Maddy Wright each driving in two runs.

The White Pine contest was the only game that went a regulation seven innings. Frei pitched five innings scattering two hits, walking two and striking out 12. Leavitt pitched the final two frames. Frei also hit an inside-the-park home run and Ana Tausinga stroked a two-run double.

Against Pahranagat Valley, Frei homered and collected four hits and had four RBI. Leavitt also had four RBI with Ashley Anguiano and Slack banging out three hits apiece.
Frei had a monster game against Bonanza going 4-for-4 with a home run, two triples and driving in six runs.

Virgin Valley will be off this week for Spring Break in the Clark County School District. They will return to the field on March 18 when they host Pahrump Valley at 3:30 p.m. at Bulldog Diamond. They will play at Canyon Springs in North Las Vegas on March 20.

The Lady Bulldogs will host the 40th annual Desert Winds Classic March 21-23 at VVHS.
