The Virgin Valley High School baseball team continued in its winning way this past week as they demolished the Trojans from Pahrump Valley on Monday, Mar. 25, 14-3; then traveled to 4A Silverado on Thursday to defeat their hosts 10-0. Despite the scores, the Dawgs had to go five innings and six innings for the win.
The Dawgs scored early against the Trojans with 2 runs in the first inning. Leadoff batter Drew Wakefield singled to left field, Bryce Intagliata drew a walk and Kurt Felix doubled to left scoring Wakefield. Montoya continued the rally forcing an error at first scoring Intagliata from third. The Dawgs finished the inning with a 2-0 lead.
The Trojans threatened in the top of the second inning, but Bulldog pitcher Mason Montoya settled down keeping the Pahrump squad at bay.
The second inning was all Bulldogs as they sent 9 batters up to the plate scoring 6 runs. Three straight errors by the Trojans infield set up the rally. Chandon Jensen and Montoya led the assault with long doubles. The score after two innings found the Dawgs up 8-0.
The Trojans cut the Dawgs lead to 8-1 in the top of the fourth inning on a double and walk.
But the Bulldogs blew the game wide open in the bottom of the fourth. Jensen drew a walk scoring on a long triple by Dodger Smith. McOmie singled driving in Smith, Koby Perry singled driving in Litzenberger, Wakefield followed with a sacrifice fly ball to center scoring McOmie. Singles by Intagliata and Felix drove in the final runs of the inning making the score 14-1 in favor of the Dawgs.
Virgin Valley substituted pitchers in the top of the fifth. The move resulted in two runs for the Trojans making the final score 14-3. Montoya got the win.
Smith and Felix led the Dawgs hitters with 2 hits and 2 RBI’s.
The Bulldogs found themselves in a ball game against Silverado. Neither team scored until the Dawgs put 3 runs on the scoreboard in the third inning. Three straight singles by Litzenberger, McOmie and Perry got the Dawgs rolling. Felix had the big blow driving in two runs on a double.
The Dawgs rallied in the top of the fifth inning scoring 5 insurance runs to take an 8-0 lead. McOmie, Montoya, Jensen and Smith had singles in the inning.
Virgin Valley added two more runs in the sixth inning making the final score 10-0.
Intagliata continued his mastery on the mound shutting down Silverado.
Smith, Felix, Jensen and McOmie led the Dawgs with two hits each. Felix added 3 RBI’s to his team leading total.
The Dawgs travel to Canyon Springs on Tuesday, April 2. Another road trip will take them to Hurricane, Utah on Wednesday. Finally the team will host Canyon Springs in a back to back series on Thursday. Game time is 3:30.
