Pirates extend losing streak with 3 losses

The Moapa Valley High School baseball team continued its struggle last week as they lost all three games on the schedule for their seventh in a row.

The week started with The Meadows school traveling to Moapa Valley where they beat the Pirates, 7-5.
The Meadows scored first with a run in the second inning.

The Pirates returned the favor by scoring 5 runs and taking the lead in the bottom of the second. This was highlighted by Shandon Matheson singling in two runs.

The Meadows tied the game in the fifth by scoring four runs including a solo homerun. They won the game with 2 runs in the sixth. A sacrifice fly and a single gave the Mustangs the two run lead. The Meadows then held on for the win.

Tyson Pettingill was the losing pitcher as he pitched two and a third innings and gave up 3 runs on 5 hits. He struck out two and walked 5.

In their second game of the week, the Pirates traveled to Boulder City where they were beaten, 5-4.
The Eagles scored 2 runs in the bottom of the second when Gavin Flake grounded out driving in a run. Aiden Armstrong then singled in the second run for the 2-0 lead.

The Pirates took the lead in the top of the sixth when Matheson, Tyson Pettingill and Lucas Pettingill (who walked) scored RBI’s.
The Eagles won the game in the bottom of the sixth when Baker and Aldridge drove in the tying and winning runs.

Garrett Hadley was the losing pitcher for the Pirates. He pitched six innings giving up 5 earned runs.

The third game of the week required the Pirates to travel to Pahrump Valley where the Trojans beat them, 7-6.
Lucas Pettingill scored for the Pirates when he singled in a run in the top of the second. Tyson Pettingil then scored an RBI on a ground out for a 2-0 Pirate lead.

But in the bottom of the third, the Trojans scored 5 runs to take the lead. Two of those runs were scored on a Pirate error.

Moapa Valley fought back, tying the game after a triple and a single by the Pettingills. Ean Jones gave the Pirates the lead when he singled in a run for a 6-5 lead.
Zurn and Whitney drove in runs in the bottom of the sixth for the Trojans win.

The Pirates are now 7-8 overall and 1-1 in league play.
They will play Mojave twice this week; once on Tues. April 2 in Las Vegas, then at home on Thursday starting at 3:30 pm. The Pirates then travel to Hurricane, Utah for a game this Friday at 5pm.
