Spring Sports Roundup (April 3, 2024)

VVHS Softball

The Bulldogs continued to roll along winning three games last week, all called after three innings because of the NIAA mercy rule.
The three victories extended the Lady Bulldogs’ winning streak to 15 to start the season.
The Lady Bulldogs defeated Valley of Las Vegas, 26-0, Cheyenne of North Las Vegas, 17-0, and Western of Las Vegas, 22-1.

Virgin Valley pitchers threw two no-hitters for the week while outscoring its opponents 65-1.
In the win over Valley, the VVHS bats pounded out 28 hits led by Natalie Plancarte, Julia Leavitt and Davie Slack with four hits apiece. Plancarte and Mercedes Jordan each drove in four runs apiece.

Plancarte, Reggi Frei and Ana Tausinga belted home runs. Leavitt slugged two triples with Frei and Hayden Owsley getting one each.
Ashley Anguiano added two doubles with Jordan, Owsley, Plancarte and Slack getting one each.
Frei pitched a three-inning no-hitter issuing no walks and striking out six Valley batters.

In the victory over Cheyenne, Leavitt pitched a three-inning no-hitter walking one and striking out eight.
Jordan and Slack both tripled and drove in three runs apiece with Plancarte and Owsley adding doubles and driving in two runs each.

In the win over Western, the Lady Bulldogs used a 10-run first inning to take charge early. Leavitt doubled twice, tripled and had four RBI while scoring four runs. Frei also had a triple among her three hits.

Slack chipped in with two doubles while Jordan and Ava Noel had one each.
Mady Wright pitched all three innings surrendering two hits, walking one and striking out three batters.

Virgin Valley will play at Del Sol Academy in Las Vegas on Tuesday, April 2, and host Moapa Valley on Friday at 3:30 pm at Bulldog Diamond.

MVHS Track & Field

The Pirates traveled to Silverado last week for a midweek track meet which brought together Bishop Gorman, Silverado and Moapa Valley to compete.
Mordechai Yadegar placed second in the 800 meters,
Hal Thompson placed second in the 1600 meters.
William Anderson placed second in the 3200 meters.

The Pirates had three finishes in the top four of the 110 meter hurdles. Ryker Katich won the race with a time of 17.00. Brody Redd finished second and Ellis Porter placed third.
Redd also placed second in the 300 meter hurdles while Mason Wheeler placed fourth.
Logan Stewart placed second in the shot put. Gavin Fredrick placed third in the event.
Stewart won the discus with a throw of 142’10.

Tanner Hammons won the high jump with a height of 5-8. Rion Zerkle placed fourth.
Jackson Burt won the pole vault with a vault of 11’6. Caleb Anderson was second and Eric Lee was third.
Hammons won the long jump with a leap of 20’0.5. Redd placed fourth.

The girls had Allison Mills place second in the 400 meters and the 300 meters. She also took fourth in the high jump.
Amber Bodily placed second in the pole vault. Kelsie Wagasky placed third.
Claire Cox placed fourth in the discus and third in the high jump.
Haylie Western finished second in the shot put.
Daisey Gordon was third in the long jump.

On Friday and Saturday the Pirates competed in an invitational tournament at Desert Oasisl.
Friday had the freshman and sophomores competing.
Ryker Katich placed second in the 110 hurdles and third in the 300 hurdles.
Caleb Anderson was second in the pole vault.
Janet Werner placed third in the shot put and fourth in the discus.
Amber Bodily was third in the pole vault.

Saturday had juniors and seniors. Yadegar was second in the 1600 and third in the 3200.
This week the Pirates will host the midweek meet on Tuesday. The team will then host the Richard Lewis Invitational which, this year, will be held at Shadow Ridge High School due to ongoing construction at Moapa Valley High School.
