Bulldogs baseball win streak hits 12 games

The Virgin Valley High School baseball team offense continued to dominate this week as the Bulldogs won three more games increasing their win streak to 12 games. Their last loss was to Durango 5-10 to open the season.

The Dawgs crushed Canyon Springs twice both at home (19-4) and away games (15-0) while defeating Hurricane, Utah in between with a score of 10-3.

The Dawgs’ blowout win on Tuesday, April 2 over Canyon Springs in N. Las Vegas was a shortened three inning game due to the mercy rule.

The team scored 3 runs in the first inning behind hits by Bryce Intagliata, Mason Montoya, Dodger Smith and Cameron Wright.

The Bulldogs blew the game wide open in the second inning with 4 runs, adding 8 more in the third inning for the final score of 15-0.

Montoya led the Dawgs with three hits followed by Wright, Intagliata and Curt Felix with two hits each. Felix and Montoya had three RBI.

The Dawgs were rude guests in Utah on Wednesday, defeating Hurricane, 10-3. Despite the final score, the Bulldogs were in a tough match as they needed to score six runs in the top of the sixth to insure the win.

Virgin Valley needed 8 walks during the match which were instrumental in the win.
Gunner McOmie led the Dawgs with 3 RBI on two hits. Drew Wakefield, Felix and Jensen all contributed with 2 hits.
Intagliata got the win allowing only 2 hits.

The Bulldogs got off to a rough start on their home matchup with Canyon Springs on Thursday. The team gave up 4 runs in the first inning before turning the game around with 8 runs in the bottom of the same inning.

Intagliata, Wright and Coby Perry had doubles in the inning with McOmie striking an inside-the-park home run.

The Dawgs sent up 14 batters in the second inning taking advantage of 4 walks, 4 singles and 2 doubles to score 9 runs to increase their lead to 17-4 after 2 innings. Wright and Jensen led the attack with doubles.

The Dawgs added 2 runs in the third and final inning making the final score 19-4.
Wright led the Dawgs with a 3-3 night and 3 RBI.

The Bulldogs face a home and away double header this week with archrival Moapa Valley. The Pirates hosted the game on Monday night, the results of which didn’t make the deadline for this week’s paper. The Bulldogs will host the second round on Wednesday. Game starts at 3:30 pm.

The Dawgs will end the week at Cimarron-Memorial on Friday.
