MVHS Track hosts two meets last week

MVHS freshman BJ Robison gets a start out ahead of his heat in the 1600 meter race during the Richard Lewis Invitational on Friday afternoon.

The Moapa Valley High Schoo Track and Field program hosted two meets last week.

The first, held on Tuesday, April 2 at MVHS stadium, included teams from Democracy Prep, Coronado, Lincoln County and Pahranagat Valley.

The second meet was the huge Richard Lewis Invitational meet on Friday afternoon. This brought 27 schools from across the region. It was held at Shadow Ridge High School in North Las Vewgas because of ongoing field construction at MVHS.

The Pirate boys team took first place at the weekday meet with 184 points, far ahead of Coronado who took second place with 83 points.
Degan Jones placed second in both the 100 and 200 meters.
Mordechai Yadegar won the 800 meters with Hal Thompson placing third and Gavin Hendricks placing fourth.

The Pirates had the top four places in the 1600 meters with James Nunez winning the race with a time of 5:13.6. Willam Anderson placed second, BJ Robison third and Grant Conger fourth.
Thompson finished second in the 3200 meters with Nunez fourth.

Ryker Katich won the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 16.71. Rion Zerkle placed second, Ellis Porter third and Ty Clucas fourth.

Katich also won the 300 meter hurdles, 44.64. Mason Wheeler placed third and Clucas fourth.
Logan Stewart had a great day as he won the shot put and discus with personal records. He threw a 52-9 in the shot put, two inches shy of the school record. He threw a 150-1 discus. Gavyn Frederick placed second in both. Tony Carrillo placed third in the discus and Damon Bevan placed fourth in the shot put.

Jones won his third event of the contest with a jump of 5-10 in the high jump. Jacob Dominguez placed second and Zerkle third.
Caleb Anderson placed second in the pole vault while Hendricks finished third.
Tyson Redd placed third in the triple jump.

The MVHS girls team took second place in the meet with 117 points, behind Coronado at 176.
Mckayla Western place third in the 1600 meters and Evenlyn Ward placed fourth.
Gweneth Foster placed fourth in the 3200.

Allison Mills won the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 16:06. Taylee Bunch placed second.
Mills also won the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 55.3. Bailee Patten placed fourth.
Hailey Western won the shot put with a throw of 32-10. Janet Werner placed third.
Claire Cox won the discus with a throw of 84-11. Jax Montgomery placed third and Werner fourth.
Mills won her third event of the day with a 5-0 high jump. Cox placed second and Western third.
Amber Bodily placed second in the pole vault.
Dasir Gordon placed third in the long jump while Abbie Hammons placed fourth.
Western finished the meet with a fourth place finish in the triple jump.

Competition was fierce at the Richard Lewis Invitational on Friday night at Shadow Ridge High School, but run by MVHS staff and volunteers.

The Pirate boys put in a fourth place finish with 67.5 points. Shadow Ridge took first place with 104 points. The Virgin Valley boys ended in 12th place with 18.5 points.
Ryker Katich finished third for the Pirates in the 110 meter hurdles.
Hal Thompson finished fourth in the 3200 meters.

Dylan Vellinga of Virgin Valley placed third in the pole vault while Caleb Anderson of Moapa Valley placed fourth.
Logan Stewart won the boys shot put with a throw of 50-11. Gavyn Frederick placed fourth.
Stewart also finished fourth in the discus.

The Pirate girls team managed a 7th place finish in the meet with 42.33 points. Virgin Valley ended in a three way tie with Boulder City and Green Valley for 11th place.
Allison Mills finished third in both the 100 meter hurdles and 300 meter hurdles.
Mills also placed second in the high jump with team mate Claire Cox finishing third.
Virgin Valley’s Audrey Fiso finished third in the shot put and second in the discus.

The Pirates will take this week off during the Clark County Fair.

The Bulldogs will travel to Cheyenne on Thursday.
