Spring Sports Roundup (April 17,2024)

MVHS Softball

The Pirates beat the Western Warriors, 15-0, on Monday, April 18 in Moapa.
Kyndal Longman doubled in two runs to start the game. Then Kylie Neal singled and scored three runs with bases loaded all in the first inning.
Longman singled in the second scoring another run and Emmy Cornwall hit an inside-the-park homerun scoring two more.
Andie Wood doubled, scoring a run. Then a Warrior error scored two more.
The Pirates had seven runs in the bottom of the third ending the game.
Moapa Valley travels to Mater East on Wednesday, April 17 and hosts Democracy Prep on Thursday starting at 3:30 pm.

VVHS Softball

The Lady Bulldogs continued their hold on the 3A South as they picked up three more victories last week to run their record to 21-0. All three games were called early because of the NIAA mercy rule.
Virgin Valley pounded Mater Academy East, 16-6, in a game called after five innings, and then followed up with a pair of triumphs over Cheyenne of North Las Vegas, 20-4, and Pahranagat Valley of Alamo, 19-2. Pahranagat Valley is a 1A school.
Julia Leavitt homered, doubled and drove in three runs while Ava Noel had four hits in the win over Mater East, which committed seven errors in the contest. Hayden Owsley added a double and had two RBI.

n the victory over Cheyenne, Leavitt slugged two home runs and two triples and drove in five runs. Reggi Frei also slugged two homers and had four RBI while Davie Slack added four base hits in the three-inning contest.
Natalie Plancarte added three hits and scored four runs while Ana Tausinga belted a home run and had three RBI.

Frei had four hits and scored four runs in the victory over Pahranagat Valley. Plancarte had three hits and three RBI while Leavitt chipped in three hits and pitched all five innings inside the circle, walking none and striking out nine batters.
Mercedes Jordan and Noel each had two hits and two RBI while Owsley homered for one of her two hits.

Virgin Valley will host Boulder City Tuesday at 3:30 pm at Hunter Park. After playing at Democracy Prep on Wednesday, the Lady Bulldogs will host Del Sol Academy of Las Vegas on Thursday before closing out the week Friday at SLAM Academy in Las Vegas.

VVHS Baseball

The Bulldogs finished last week by traveling to Las Vegas to face 4A Cimarron-Memorial on Friday, April 12.
The Dawgs won the game easily, 13-2.
Slugger Kurt Felix led the way with 2 hits for 5 RBI.
First baseman Dodger Smith added 2 hits and an RBI.
Intagliata and Montoya continued to hit the long ball, garnering a triple each in the win over the Spartans.
Cameron Wright got the win for the Dawgs.

VVHS Boys Volleyball

The Bulldogs remained in a first-place tie in the 3A South Desert League after traveling to Las Vegas and defeating Pinecrest Academy-Cadence, 3-0 on Wednesday night, April 10.
Virgin Valley won by scores of 25-12, 25-17 and 25-19 to move to 9-1 in league play. The Bulldogs are tied with Valley of Las Vegas for the top spot, but hold the tiebreaker over the Vikings.
Nate Panjaitan led the way for the Bulldogs recording 20 assists and 10 digs. McKay Mulitalo added seven kills with Reece Leavitt, Bryant Denninghoff and Conner Averett getting five kills apiece.
Aiden Muniz chipped in with seven digs for the Bulldogs while Averett and Destry Tobler had six each. Alonzo Roque added 11 assists.

Virgin Valley participated in the Arbor View Invitational Friday and Saturday in North Las Vegas. The Bulldogs went 5-3 in tournament play to improve their overall record to 15-11.
VVHS fell to host Arbor View (2-0) and Las Vegas (2-0) before bouncing back to defeat Coral Academy of Science-Las Vegas (2-1), Durango of Las Vegas (2-0), Mater Academy East (2-0), Cristo Rey St. Viator (2-0) and Amplus Academy of Las Vegas (2-0). Virgin Valley lost its final match to Cimarron-Memorial of Las Vegas, 2-0.

The Bulldogs hosted Somerset Academy-Losee on Monday night after press deadline. They will travel to Las Vegas on Thursday to play Cristo Rey St. Viator.
VVHS will host American Heritage Academy of Las Vegas on Monday, April 22 at 4 pm and Mater Academy East on April 23 at 6 pm.

VVHS Track & Field

The Bulldogs travelled to Cheyenne High School in Las Vegas for a weekday meet on Thursday, April 11.
On the boys team, Gavin Hughes took 2nd place in the 800 meters with a personal record (PR) run of 2:17.36.
Dylan Barnum took 2nd in the 1600 meters with another PR at 5:00.34. Gaven Hughes took 3rd, Tyzin Broderick 4th and Jayston Malcom fifth for the Bulldogs.
Barnum PRed again in the 3200 meter, placing 2nd at 10:45.42. Hughes took 3rd, Malcom 4th and Timen Van Der Zee 5th in the race.

Dylan Vellinga brought home 3rd place in the 110 hurdles. He also won the pole vault at 11’6. Finally, he took second place in triple jump at 37’0.
Jeremy Gossett won the shot put for the Bulldogs at 42’8.

For the girls team, Ari Easton took 3rd in the 100 meters at 13.48. She also placed 2nd in the 400 meters.
Jenna Walters swept the field in distance running. She won the 800 meters at 2:38.09. She then had no trouble winning the 1600 at 5:36.93. Finally she won the 3200 at 13:09.02.
Celeste Guzman won the 100 meter hurdles for the Bulldogs at 19.65.
Audrey Fiso dominated the shot put with a throw of 35’ 6. Nataly Martinez brought home a 3rd place finish. Fiso went on to win the Discus at 101’9.
