The Virgin Valley High School baseball team continued its near perfect season with four more victories last week. The Dawgs have rolled over southern teams after a single loss began their season.

The team began the week on Monday, April 15, with a 10-0 whipping of 3A Desert League leader The Meadows before winning back to back games over Mojave 15-0 on Wednesday and 7-0 on Friday. They finished the week at home with a trouncing of the Eagles from Boulder City on Saturday.

In the game against The Meadows, the Bulldogs rallied around ace Bryce Intagliata, who gave up only two hits in the 10-0 win.

The first inning seemed to be the golden goose for the Dawgs as they scored the first run again to start their dominance. Kurt Felix singled in the initial run.

The team added three runs in the third inning behind hits from their middle of the order. Mason Montoya, Chandon Jensen and Dodger Smith each drove in a run to up the score to 4-0 after three.

The Dawgs added one run in each of the next two innings before putting up four runs in the seventh and final inning for the win.

Intagliata went 3-4 to lead the Virgin Valley hitters. Smith and Gunnar McOmie each had two hits. Montoya, Jensen and Felix had two RBI’s each.
The Dawgs were rude hosts to the Mojave Rattlers on Wednesday scoring 10 runs in the first inning on their way to a 15-0 shutout.

The team added 2 runs in the second inning and 3 runs in the third to force a mercy rule three inning game.

Drew Wakefield went a perfect 3-3 from his first batter position scoring 3 runs. Intagliata and McOmie chipped in with 2 hits each. Friday’s matchup stats were not available but the Dawgs still staged a shutout in the return match in Las Vegas.

Virgin Valley finished the week on Saturday with a blowout of the Eagles at Hunter Park.
The Eagles got the ball moving early with a first batter double. But they could not bring him around as Dawg starter Chandon Jensen pitched a one hitter the rest of the way for a 16-1 victory.

The Dawgs scored 5 runs in the bottom of the first on a double by Felix, a Montoya single and fielder’s choices from Jordan Goodsell and McOmie.

The team added 4 more runs in the bottom of the second and 7 runs in the bottom of the fourth inning forcing a four inning mercy rule game. Felix and Montoya led the Dawgs with 2 hits each. Montoya had 3 RBI and Felix added 2 more on 2 ground rule doubles over the right field fence. Jensen got the win with Montoya in relief.

The Dawgs faced Democracy Prep on Monday and will finish a two game series against the Blue Knights on Wednesday. They finish the week at Sierra Vista on Thursday.

Virgin Valley has 4 games remaining in Mountain League play, only needing one win for the league championship before beginning 3A Southern Conference play on May 6 against the Desert League’s fourth place team.
