Bulldog teams win home track meet

The Virgin Valley High School track and field teams both won a small mid-week meet held in Mesquite on Thursday, April 18.

The Bulldog boys team took first with 111 points against second place Lincoln County at 83 points and Pinecrest Cadence of Las Vegas at 41 points.

The VVHS girls team won their meet with 88 points over Lincoln County with 67, Pinecrest Cadence with 47 and Founders Academy with 5.

On the boys side, Joaquin Ramirez won the 400 meters for the Bulldogs at 55.1. Karson Garrett took 3rd in the event.

VVHS distance runner Timen Van Der Zee secured a 3rd place spot in the 800 meters at 2:22.6.
VVHS senior Dylan Barnum was first to finish the 1600 meter run at 5:01.8.

Barnum also won the 3200 meter at 11:03.6. Tyzen Broderick took 2nd and Jayston Malcom took 3rd in the event.

VVHS senior Jeremy Gossett won the shot put with a throw of 45’ 1.5. He also placed first in the discuss at 98’ 5. Freshman Riley Gossett took 3rd place in both throwing events for the Bulldogs.
Kyle Dalton reached 10’ 0 in the pole vault as a VVHS sophomore, ending up in 2nd place. Senior Dylan Vellinga took 3rd in the event.

Ethan Ofori won the triple jump for the Bulldogs with a leap of 39’ 7.5. Mark Davis placed 3rd for the team.

In the girls competition, VVHS junior Ari Easton swept all of the sprinting events, winning the 100 meters at 13.5; the 200 meters at 25.6, and the 400 meters at 1:03.6.
VVHS senior Jenna Walters won the 800 meters at 2:36.3; and the 1600 meters at 5:32.4.

VVHS sophomore Anni Tobler took a 2nd place finish in the 100 meter hurdles at 20.4. Then she won the 300 meter hurdles at 52.2.

Senior Audrey Fiso dominated the throwing events. She threw the shotput for a distance of 37’ 4. Nataly Martinez took 2nd place. Fiso then went on to win the discuss with a throw of 111’4.
Sophomore Wynn Kelly won the high jump for the Bulldogs with a leap of 4’6. Kelly also placed 2nd in the triple jump at 29’2.
