The Virgin Valley High School softball team had its 22-game winning streak snapped with a 4-2 loss to visiting Boulder City on Tuesday afternoon, April 16 at Hunter Park.

The Lady Eagles used a walk, two doubles and a single to score three runs in the top of the first inning to jump in front, 3-0.

Virgin Valley scored a run in the bottom of the frame when Davie Slack singled home Natalie Plancarte to cut the lead to 3-1.

Julia Leavitt’s inside the park home run in the third got the Lady Bulldogs within 3-2, but Boulder City added an insurance run in the top of the sixth to go back up by two runs.

Ashley Anguiano and Reggi Frei collected three hits apiece for Virgin Valley, but it wasn’t enough against Boulder City pitcher Payton Rogers, who walked one and struck out seven batters.

Leavitt went the distance inside the circle for the Lady Bulldogs walking six and striking out five.
Undaunted by its first loss of the season, Virgin Valley bounced back to destroy visiting Del Sol Academy of Las Vegas, 19-0, on Thursday. The next day, the Lady Bulldogs went on the road to defeat SLAM Academy, 13-1, in Las Vegas.

Leavitt homered and drove in four runs for Virgin Valley against Del Sol Academy while Blythe Mosher had three hits and three RBI. Ava Noel and Maddy Wright each added two RBI for VVHS.

The Lady Bulldogs scored 15 runs in the bottom of the first to put the game away early. The game was halted after three innings because of the NIAA mercy rule.

In Friday’s win at SLAM Academy, Leavitt once again led the way in the five-inning contest. The sophomore had four hits, including a home run and double, scored four runs and drove in three. She also went the distance inside the circle surrendering just two hits while walking three and striking out 10.

Ana Tausinga also had a big day for the Lady Bulldogs, slugging a triple and two doubles while driving in five runs. Frei added three hits and scored three runs while Anguiano also scored three runs and had two hits.

Virgin Valley is now 24-1 overall and 9-0 in the 3A South Desert League.

The Lady Bulldogs will play at rival Moapa Valley on Tuesday, April 23. They will then host Mater Academy East of Las Vegas on Thursday at Hunter Park. Both games are scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m.
